Zygor Review - Definitely Not Just Another Leveling Guide

BZ - The old style of guides

Prior to Zygor's Leveling Guide, most WoW leveling guides were very similar. They were sent to you as digital eBooks that you could print out or read from your computer. They might be biased towards one race or another, and often focused on solo play, meaning, game review, that you would not do the instances, game review, or the group quests. Some may offer an add-on that allowed you to set waypoints, and others offered links to sites like Thottbot for more information on an individual quest.

These types of guides had a few issues that made them less than ideal. For, game review, starters, the fact that they were an eBook meant that you either had to spend a fortune in ink and paper printing them out, or had to continually, game review, flip back and forth between the guide and the game (unless you are one of the serious gamers that has at least two monitors running). Also, these guides were not always specific about how to complete the quest, and instead were geared for players who had already played the game.

This meant that new players would spend a lot of extra time reading the quest log and referring to sites like Thottbot for help.

What makes Zygor's so different?

For one thing Zygor's leveling guide is a resizable window that you can see while playing the game. This can be made small enough to have on one side of your screen, allowing you to access it when needed, yet not being in the way. No stopping to read something, or needing two monitors, a major bonus over other WoW guides.

Automated - Zygor Review;

The other great thing about this guide is that it is automated.

Unlike other in-game guides, you do not have, game review,, game review, to click on the next quest to know where to go. When you turn in, game review, a quest, the guide automatically updates for you, so you can keep playing. The waypoints are also already set for you, and all you need to do is follow the arrow. If you log off during game play, your guide will remember, game review, where you left off when you log back on.

Zygor Review - For Any Character or Class

If you like, you can even use Zygor's leveling guide starting at a level other than one.

Just scroll through the guide until you, game review, find the quest that you are on, and the guide will continue from that point forward. If you decide that you want to skip a quest, click on the next one and the one you skipped will be grayed out. Class quests are included, so you don't, game review, even, game review, have to worry about figuring those out on your own. And since the guide, game review, is not class specific, you can use it for leveling any character class you wish.

Every detail that you need to complete a quest is included.

For example, if it, game review, tells you to pick up a quest, it will tell you what direction to travel to reach a specific set of coordinates, who to talk to, and what the quest name is. You also get a waypoint arrow that will point you in the direction that you need to go.

Zygor Review - Downsides to Zygor's Guide?

There are a few things that some players may not like about Zygor's Leveling Guides. For, game review, example, all classes hit the same zone at level 13. So, if you are an Alliance player, you are stuck in Westfall, and if you are a Horde player, you, game review, can expect to hit the Barrens.

All in all, this is not necessarily, game review, a deal breaker,, game review, unless you've endured Barrens chat for just a few too many levels.

There are some cases where the guide does not update automatically, though some updates, game review, have corrected this. If you experience this problem, you will just have to manually select the next item on the list to get back on track.

Some quests can have you fighting larger mobs or mobs of a higher level. Depending, game review, on your character and class, this can be a bit of a pain, and walking back to your body from the graveyard does waste valuable playing time.

Keep in mind that if you aren't playing 24 hours a day, then taking advantage of rested experience can put you ahead in level from the guide, causing many of, game review, these quests to become easier.

Zygor Review - All in all, this is probably the easiest to use, most comprehensive guide you can get, game review, . If you are looking for a way to level through WoW quickly, even with minimal experience, then the Zygor's Leveling Guide is a great place to start.

Need For Speed Shift PSP Review

The Need for Speed series has been running for a long time now. But, game review, with recent disasters the series was due for, game review, a change. Therefore EA contacted several high profile developers to transform the series to a whole new setting. A setting that, game review, is realistic.

Gameplay

To make the move things have changed considerably. The over de top tuning, known from the street racer games, is gone. Likewise are the many street circuits, the driving in the city scheme and most importantly the police chases.

In need for speed shift you progress by finishing in the top 3 of different challenges. Then you have one vs one races with high profile drivers. Winning, game review, these races will give you the car he uses. But more importantly by winning this challenge you will proceed to the,, game review, game review, next level of competition. This circle will continue until you are on the top of the ladder (literally) and own all cars that are worth owning. We really like this basic clean way of working your way up,, game review, way, game review, more than the similar but more over done way that the previous Need for speed games used.

There are a few problems though. For one we didn't like the 'boss' fights. It made us think of the street races and in fact they're, game review, really similar. This isn't what you want in a game that tries to be a simulator. Other problems are the way the game defines your characteristics as a driver, game review, . You gain points on curtain bars by driving clean or aggressive. For example drifting every corner, game review, will gain you points on the drifting bar. This way the game defines if you are a clean racer, aggressive or maybe careless.

But the fastest way of going around corners is by drifting and in the drifting challenges you are forced to use the handbrake cornering once more. So the way the systems defines you as a driver is highly dodgy in the PSP version. The most important thing in a racing game is the driving. Fortunately the game is very easy to drive. The controls work well on the PSP and the steering is pretty accurate. However we still don't like the system overall. For one the fastest way around a corner is by always using the handbrake.

And the speeds are highly inaccurate, game review, . It's plain insane to be driving a VW scirocco and having the feeling that you're, game review, going blistering fast. And it's not just the feel. These EA cars can go from 0 to 150mph in, game review, mere seconds. Another point worth, game review, mentioning is that the boost button is back in need for speed shift. This button will make the car go Bugatti fast for, game review, 7 seconds. Unfortunately it's highly unrealistic and isn't nearly as suddle as we would've liked.

(F1 KERS button like) So in short it's still an arcade but if you like that short of thing than there's nothing to worry about on the driving part.

Presentation

This is where the game shines. The graphics look amazing for a PSP game. The lightning effects are great as are the cars and the track graphics. The sound is also great. But we'd have liked more differences in sound between the cars. Again taking the VW. In shift this car sounds way, game review, too sporty. We've only really spotted one point that just happens to spoil every other point presentation wise: the game simply seems unable to remember, game review, you preferred driving view.

The game kept putting us in the default and there's no way to change the default view other than to manually change it each race. This is as annoying as downers get.

Need for Speed Shift is a nice arcade racer with a clean and clear ladder for you to climb to the absolute top. But even down the ladder your cars will go inhumane fast and there, game review, isn't always the motivation because of this to really reach the top. And because the game can't remember your driving view, most gamers won't ever reach the top.

Sony Playstation 3 40GB Console Review

It's always a good idea to read the reviews of the products you want to buy, that way you won't bump into any surprises,, game review, you'll know exactly what to expect. Now, before you go off and purchase your 40G Playstation 3 console, you should keep in mind that this models is not compatible with Playstation 2 games, so if you plan on playing your old PS2, game review, games than you should instead buy the PS3 consoles with 60GB - 80GB.

I gave away my Playstation 2 console including all the games so this wasn't really an issue, game review, for me.

The main reason I bought 40GB model is because you can go online with the console and also I wanted to start renting Blue-ray DVD movies because I recently bought a 40inch HDTV. Well I think if you upgrade the console theirs no point in playing the old games anymore when you can buy the new PS3 games.

And believe me, playing the Playstation 3 games on a full 1080p HDTV is nothing less than amazing. And you'll notice that this 40GB model has a HDMI port, in order to watch Blue-ray movies and play Blue-ray games in high definition.

But the bad thing is that the HDMI cable doesn't come with the console so you need to remember to, game review, buy the cable separately, I forgot to buy mines so I had to go back to the store.

Well I had to go back because the HDMI cable is what makes all the difference in terms of high quality entertainment, without it you won't,, game review, game review, be able to enjoy your Playstation 3 console at it's fullest capacity. But you'll need to have a HDTV in order to use the cable, however if you happen to have a standard Television than you shouldn't really worry about all that stuff, game review, .

You will also find that the console has a built-in wireless ability to connect to the internet and it won't cost you a penny. And you can even share files between you PC and you PS3 console, if you want to learn how, game review, to do this you can find a lot videos on YouTube that demonstrates,, game review, game review, the process, game review, . And like every other PS3 console it comes with one Sony Sixaxis wireless controller, it's similar to the old PS3 2 controller except it has a button in the middle.

And if you intent to watch movies like than you also need to remember to buy the remote control separately,, game review, you can find great deal on Amazon or, game review, eBay so that shouldn't be a problem. Overall, I have to say that the Playstation 3 console is more than a gaming system. This time Sony really pushed the envelope by making it into a great multimedia centre, and I'm sure everyone who owns the console will agree.

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition Review

Half-Life 2 is a fantastic game. Years ago, when it came out, I refused to get it because of Steam. Even though I still don't care for Steam, Half-Life 2 and its many spinoffs may actually be worth it.

HOWEVER - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME USED!

As others have pointed out, if the CD key is already in use by another Steam account, you CANNOT play the game. All I wanted was to play HL1: Source, but because I didn't read the reviews, I now have a game I'll probably end up sending back.

Learn from my experience, and don't make the same mistake.

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition Feature

  • Realistic physics: objects have varied and appropriate mass, density, physical properties
  • Sequel to the hit first-person shooter
  • Scientist-with-a-crowbar Gordon Freeman joins a ragtag human resistance fighting extradimensional invaders for the survival of a conquered Earth
  • Unnervingly realistic graphics the likes of which have not been witnessed outside of a motion picture or pre-rendered cut scene
  • Special Edition includes Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, plus Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Half-Life: Source.

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition Overview

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition compiles all the best elements of this incredible game, with all-new player options and even better graphics. Start out with Half-Life 2, where you return to the alien research facility called Black Mesa. The aliens are now pouring into our world and you'll join the resistance movement to stop them. Battle it out with friends in crazy, realistic mulitplayer action with Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. Then test your tactical abilities with Half-Life: Source -- where the gaming kicks up anotch through the amazing Source game engine. With the Source engine, you get high-resolution textures, detailed character models, realistic physics and lighting, support for up to 64 players, shiny water effects & better objects - creating a more realistic gaming experience. The action continues in bigger, better form with Counter-Strike: Source

Rock Band 2 Review - Harmonix's Guitar Hero Has Evolved Into Xbox 360, PS2, PlayStation 3 Versions

For many, the only thing better than Guitar Hero is, game review, the new release of Wii Rock Band 2. If you want to be a part of the new concept in gaming, then, game review, tapping into this console can help you to enjoy even more of, game review, your gaming experience. This particular game is known as the best playing option and Rock Band upgrade in Wii history, with several more features and abilities, game review, than past Wii music games.

History of Wii Rock Band 2

Rock Band 2 was originally released by Harmonix,, game review, a company that provides digital games linked to music.

When building this game, they began, game review, with the launch of "Guitar Hero". This allowed players to add in some basic tunes while playing a guitar in the console. This particular concept developed into the Rock Band game, where standalone software was given for the guitar or drums, as well as an entire bundle that allowed players to sing and play their choice of instrument. Since this game was developed by an outside company, it is available for Wii as well as Nintendo, PlayStation and, game review, Xbox.

However, the advantage with the Wii platform is due to ability to move into motion with the music.

How Wii Rock Band 2 Relates to Others

The Wii Rock Band 2 was expected to be released in December, 2008, as one top option for the Christmas season. However, with this were some delays in, game, game review, review, some of the music, which had to be released in 2009. With the main game that was released, instant positive feedback made this game one, game review, of the best games of the year.

Because of the additional 84 songs, free music downloads and compatibility with other players, and the highlight of enjoying listening to music while participating in taking center stage with the game.

Along, game review, with this, is the benefit of Rock Band 2 being available with different consoles. The release also includes the PlayStation 3 version, Xbox 360 version and the PS2 version. The only difference noted with these are that more songs are available to download than in the Wii version.

Because the game was tried in these areas first, it is also providing more playing options. With these, are software attributes that ranges from standalone versions of $49 to bundles that are at $189, as well as sales and discounts from wholesale stores.

Whether you a professional or an amateur, you can be a part of, game review, the rocking music through, game review, the Wii Rock Band 2 console. Let the music begin to flow out of you. This particular musical platform is one that provides even novice musicians everywhere with a chance to star in the spotlights and to experience the full band beats.

This latest version 2 has received rave reviews about the unique concept of playing music, and as a console, is also being rated as one of the best experiences in gaming.

AMD vs. Intel: Which Chip Offers More Bang for Your Buck in Gaming PCs?

Computer enthusiasts have long known of the ongoing rivalry between Intel, the processing giant, and Advanced Micro Devices, or AMD. Since the early nineties, Intel and AMD have vied for technical dominance in the computer hardware field and in relation to computer gaming. For many years, AMD was like the, game review, "kid brother", game review, of Intel; the latter held a seemingly insurmountable lead in terms of market, game review, share, and the former simply eked by and scrappily etched out a place in the industry for itself.

Intel was also traditionally associated with more powerful chips while AMD came to symbolize greater value. Back in the nineties when clock speed meant everything, Intel's Pentium III chip always managed to maintain a sizeable lead in terms of performance, game review, and speed over AMD's Athlon offering. Product support also tended to lean decidedly in Intel's favor; largely due to their history of success, there were no shortage of computer manufacturers ready to do business with the company.

AMD, meanwhile, enjoyed an almost cult-like following amongst computer enthusiasts who lauded its price-to-performance ratio, game review, .

Eventually, however, the raw power of a processor began to be less important than its overall performance, information processing ability, and power consumption. The landscape began to really shift in about 2000. That year, AMD, game review, announced and began to develop its 64-bit line of processors,, game review, Opteron and Athlon 64. The company essentially staked its future on these chip lines, and in 2003 they released to much acclaim.

The balance of power had shifted decidedly in the processor market; while Intel's Pentium 4 chips struggled with power, game review, consumption and heat issues as they steadily increased in clock speed, AMD's 64-bit offerings allowed consumers to take advantage of more powerful 64-bit code in their systems—including gaming systems. Whereas Intel enthusiasts could always point to the performance discrepancy between the two different types of chips,, game review, AMD quickly became the processor of choice for computer gaming and computer hardware enthusiasts.

The processing power provided by the 64-bit AMD chips proved to be too great to pass up, and this was only reinforced in 2005 when the company released, game review, the first, game review, dual-core processors to the market. Since then, Intel has been playing catch-up in terms of hardware availability, and AMD's market share has reached its highest point at roughly 20 percent, according to eWeek.com.

What are the Advantages of AMD Processors?

As the processing, game review, landscape has shifted towards AMD's side, there are some key benefits of using AMD-based hardware that have been revealed.

The first is obviously the pure power edge that AMD has attained. Tom's, game review, Hardware (www.tomshardware.com) has long been regarded as a reliable authority in the field of computer, game review, hardware reviews. While Intel for years could always claim performance superiority over AMD at the high end, Tom's reports that this is no longer the case. In conclusion to a comparison between AMD's dual core Athlon FX-60 processor and Intel's Pentium Extreme Edition, the reviewer writes, "With the exception of a few audio and video encoding benchmarks, the Athlon 64 FX-60 represents the new device to beat as far as performance goes, thanks to its two processing cores.

" Furthermore, the reviewer adds, game review, that the increased demands of running dual graphics, game review, cards configurations means that "this processor is a great choice for the best-possible 3D gaming experience." This status as the most powerful processor, game review, is reinforced by the fact that Alienware, renowned as the industry leader in terms of powerful custom computers, uses the FX-60 exclusively in its top-of-the-line Aurora ALX system.

Another advantage of AMD processors over Intel, at least for the time being, is the lower relative power consumption of their systems.

According to Tom's Hardware, AMD's Turion 64 enjoys its status as the most efficient single core processor, and while Intel's Core Duo is technically the most efficient dual core processor, the overall power efficiency of AMD systems offsets any advantage that the Core Duo might have. When you subtract the power draw of a graphics card, which can be massive, it remains clear that AMD processors just do their job in a more efficient manner.

So What about Intel?

None of this means that Intel processors should be completely disregarded, however.

One key advantage that Intel maintains is in sheer numbers. Intel still maintains a roughly 80 percent share of the market today, and as such you are more likely to find a system sporting an Intel processor rather than its AMD counterpart. Furthermore, Intel's long string of dominance, game review, ensures that there are no software-hardware compatibility issues; as Intel is the accepted leader in, game review, the processor industry, companies base their compatibility around Intel processors first.

It's not as if Intel is resting on their laurels, either. As has often happened during the rivalry between, game review, Intel and AMD, competition is breeding a new level of performance. Intel has recently shifted to a 65 nm processor core process, beating AMD to the punch in the process. The reduced core size allows for greater possibilities in terms of chip efficiency and power. Intel's top-level chip, game review, is still more expensive than its AMD counterpart, however, perhaps due to the relative newness of the 65 nm process.

So Which Chip Should you Buy, game review, for Your Gaming Computer?

All of these technical comparisons are well and good, but they don't answer the fundamental question: which chip is best for computer gaming systems? Though they continue, game review, to use the 90 nm core process for the time being, AMD processors still represent the best "bang for your buck, game review, ." AMD's highest-end, game review, chips are still priced lower than their Intel counterparts, and the performance numbers available for them don't lie.

Furthermore, AMD-based systems are more power-efficient in general, and certain,, game review, game review, technologies allow for technical innovation. nVidia's nForce line of motherboards, for example, is just on the verge of achieving steady dual-channel DDR2-667 memory support for Athlon 64 FX2 dual core chips. What this means for the consumer,, game review, game review, is that the memory will operate faster, with a higher bandwidth, and in greater harmony with the processor than ever before.

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Finale / Ending

This is the final cutscene from Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, the direct sequel to Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. This game has one of the best storylines and it has the most cinematic feel. This is from the ending, where Matt Baker (your character) has to make several decisions that lead to the ending of this game, that leaves us ready for the next (and possibly final?) installment of the Brothers in Arms games. This scene takes place after one final effort by the Allied Forces to make Operation Market Garden a success, sadly, however, things fell apart and the entire battle was a 'strategic failure', the Allies would have to find another way to reach Berlin.

Enigma is set in an "alternate history", "one that begins in 1936 but in a world as it might have been had Germany won World War I".

The Germans drove the British Empire from Europe and into alliance with the budding Japanese Empire. Together, the Nippo-Anglo faction faces off against the German monarchy and an, game review, expansionist United States joins the war to make a unique three-sided conflict. No Pearl Harbor, no Hitler, no Nazis, no Soviet Union. With each mission you are kept current with newspaper headlines and briefings from HQ.

There are over 35 single training missions and six separate campaigns in which you play as a destroyer, corvette, PT boat, or a submarine, for, game review, a total of over 90 missions with two difficulty levels, easy or difficult.

The campaign structure is scripted and to progress you must complete each mission and live, game review, to tell. Each mission is an instant encounter at sea. There is no Aces-style hunting or tracking. The mission starts just after your lookouts make contact and the action is about to begin. The single player version does not have time compression, nor an in-game save feature. When you start, game review, a mission, you have to finish it. Getting pinned by escorts and waiting them out can take hours--real life hours.

Like any good captain there, game review, were occasions where I was forced to take her deep, cut the engines, and trust my luck while I was away from the room.

Enigma makes no pretensions about being a full-blown simulation and it isn't. Be that, game review, as it may, the level of combat and the essential elements needed for an authentic naval game are there. Enigma is no arcade game by a long shot. Enigma allows first-person control of guns but all other stations are integrated, game review, in a command-style interface, game review, .

Firing torpedoes is done by casual aiming, there's no TDC to operate. While I personally would be more satisfied with some kind of tangible input into target-motion analysis, game review, other than just "eyeballing" it, with all the pace and lethality of Enigma battles,, game review,, game review, it's sufficient. No player-controlled method of damage control is present, nor can you send radio messages. Aside from this and the lack of TDC, Enigma gives the, game review, simulation, game review, player most of what he could wish for in a naval game.

Enigma has AI that makes you say, "Ouch!"--enemy ships can put the hurt on you. Poke your periscope up in the middle of an armed convoy and you are plastered with tracer fire so dense, you can feel the hate and desperation of the crews aboard the merchants. Destroyers behave aggressively, game review, with tenacious, if somewhat predictable, tactics. The ships and planes are based on historical models with some modifications. Subs carry a realistic loadout of around 22-26 torpedoes. They reload much quicker than real WWII subs could, usually in a couple minutes.

However, being that this is an alternate history, that can be explained by hydraulics that were, game review, actually employed on the German Type XXI U-boats that were developed at the end of, game review, the war (the real war). Destroyers, corvettes,, game review, and PT Boats (motor torpedo boats) have varying kinds of armaments-depth charges, torpedoes, hedgehogs, and guns.

All ships contain a small radar/sonar screen that gives you updates on surrounding vessels. When you play as a submarine, the screen can be interpreted as the sonar map usually found on subsims like Silent Hunter and Aces of the Deep.

I was pleased to note that the indicated positions while submerged are not precise and the closer the range, the better the, game review, contacts. Tesseraction did a good job on finding the middle ground between giving the player information and withholding information he should not have depending on the tactical situation. Combined with the alarm bell that rings every time your sonar guy detects an incoming torpedo, you are equipped, game review, with fair and accommodating sensors.

Enigma has an easy mouse/keyboard interface to learn and it has the best voice, game review, control I've ever experienced in a subsim (in the same league as Sub Command).

With no special mike set-up I was able to change speed, headings, depth, fire weapons, and more just by muttering into a mike. It allows you to keep one hand on the mouse, one on the keyboard, and simultaneously issue helm and, game review, weapons orders.

Graphics are a strong point for Enigma--especially the ocean wave effect. It is as close to looking out a porthole in a real ship as anything I have ever beheld. The ocean surface has very good textures, motion, and definition. The waves have sharp, white crests that are several notches above Silent Hunter II.

Your sub or ship is a constantly, game review, moving platform on the surface and adds to the challenge of hitting targets with the guns or holding your binocs steady. The ocean battlefield varies from calm seas, to heavy seas, to flat-out gales with rain and blustering wind, game review, sounds. Just incredible.

Ships and subs are rendered with, game review, great detail. Not only are lifeboats, guns, portholes, screws, and antennas illustrated with inspired detail, but the decks, windscreens, and surfaces have a weathered look that straight away adds to the sense of watching a real ship in a real ocean.

Hard-charging escorts part the seas with a frothy bow wave and subs leave foam on the surface when they dive (although the foam lingers too long, as if it is designed as a targeting key). Along with the voice control, Enigma graphics earns high praise.

An ample sound suite accompanies, game review, the good graphics. I enjoyed the whistling of falling bombs, changes in engine sound linked with vessel speed, ocean sounds, interior sub sounds, especially the sonar pings, and ricochet sounds. When your sub is damaged by depth, game review, charge attack, you can hear breaking glass and light bulbs and threatening water leaks.

Sounds are directional, too, a plus. I noticed enemy screw sounds when in a underwater submarine were missing. Some of the best sound effects include the death scene, when your boat is fatally wounded. Water rushing in, rivets popping, and hull creaks accompanied by the slowly dimming lights... the effect is appropriately stark and eerie. Finally, you're treated to, game review, a musical score with different anthems for each faction.

This wouldn't be an adequate review without noting the physics of, game review, the Enigma.

It's easy to see that Tesseraction, game review, put a lot of effort into making the ships interact with the ocean in a convincing fashion, and they succeeded. Ships appear to be engaged in a constant dance with the ocean surface. Smaller boats such as the PT boats require a constant hand on the helm--they are pitched about by heavy seas. I also noted that when you are using the binoculars and en enemy ship hits you with a round, your view is drastically jolted, requiring time to readjust your sighting.

Same for the sub cabin under depth charge attack. The display is visibly shaken after near misses. That's realism, simulation or not.

One thing Enigma has going for it in spades is ambience. The graphics are so good and the action is so compelling you, game review, will not mind repeating the same missions over and over. Some scenes caused me to marvel--watching my sub advance on a squadron of distant escorts and seeing the flash of their muzzles followed an instant later by a streaking, smoke-trailing, death-tipped shell and an audible whi-zzz! The color, game review, and moodiness, game review, of the stormy skies and towering waves touches the seadog in you.

When the action, game review, really gets going with circling destroyers, skulking subs, merchants burning--planes, game review, dive bombing! torpedo bells ringing! shells splashing!--Enigma, game review, rules the, game review, ocean. While it is an action game, in some ways Enigma is more simulation than Silent Hunter II. When you are in the control room, you really are in a control room. Executing a crash dive makes the room tilt noticeably. Tesseraction knows how to suspend your imagination.

With the development emphasis on the eventual multiplayer action, there is no random mission generator, scenario editor, or dynamic campaign. Offsetting this is the implied assurance that since Tesseraction will be releasing upgrades on a three month cycle, that could include new mission packs. And when they get the online version completed (Dec 2003, we hear and hope), most players will be facing off on the Internet.

It's funny but, game review, much of what separates Enigma, game review, , game review, from Fleet Command is the first-person view from the bridge; and Enigma is distinguished from Fighting Steel by a vastly superior representation of the ocean.

Yet, a host of other details and engineering touches make Enigma superior to most naval games that have come before it, game review, . The AI is better, the pacing is geared for action, the voice control works, and the environment is thoroughly engaging. Enigma promises fun and action in a superior ocean landscape and the single player version delivers, game review, completely. If Tesseraction is able to forge ahead and bring new versions and enhancements to Enigma as promised, including the massive multiplayer component, Enigma will have a lock on the naval game community.

If you like naval games in general, you'll like Enigma. If you love good naval games, you'll love Enigma. This is truly a good naval game.

"Stay Alive" Review

Plot:After the brutal death of a friend, a group of friends find themselves in possession of a video-game called 'Stay-Alive', a blood-curdling true story of a 17th century noblewoman known as 'The, game review, Blood Countess'. However, after playing the game when they know they shouldn't, the friends realize that once they die in the game - they die for real. As their numbers begin dropping and as they, game review, begin dying, game review, in the ways they died in the game, the remaining friends realize they must, game review, defeat the Blood Countess or accept their fates.

Cast: Jon Foster, Samaire Armstrong, Frankie Muniz, Sophia Bush, Jimmi Simpson, Adam Goldberg,, game review, Milo Ventimiglia.

My Thoughts:What it lacks, game review, in style, game review, when it comes to the kills, it makes up for with, game review, an original story.

Review:Movies like "Stay Alive" usually have me leaving the theater going "what the hell was that?". But oddly enough, that's not the way I felt about "Stay Alive" after seeing it. While, game review, the movie did have it's, game review, problems from the standpoint of being, game review, a balls to the wall horror movie, it works really well as a dark mystery with horror elements sprinkled in.

The jist of "Stay Alive" centers around a weird video game that someone created and found a way to send out into the world. The bad part of the game is, if you die in it, you die for real, and weirdest of all, you die in real life the way you died in the game. I admit this movie would've been hella lame if the game started frying people or killing them in freak accidents ala "Final Destination", but writer William Brent Bell is smart enough to give us a villain or should I say villainess, game review, that, game review, we can identify with, in the legendary countess Elizibeth Bathory.

For those, game review, of you not familiar with this historical ghoulstess, she, game review, killed countless young women back in the dark ages and bathed in their blood,, game review, believing that doing so would grant her eternal youth. The dark aspect of the movie makes it's presence felt early on because when victims number 1,2, and 3 are claimed, it's by the countess character that appears, game review, in the game as it's boss villainess, if you will. The mystery and burden of one of the first victims death falls upon his avid gamer friends Hutch (Jon Foster), Abigail (Samaire Armstrong), Phineus, game review, Bantum (Jimmi Simpson), his sister October (Sophia Bush), Miller (Adam Goldberg), and Swink (Frankie Muniz).

Bell, game review, manages to keep the mystery of the film fresh, dark, and intriguing as the gamers soon start playing the game in honor of their, game review, deceased buddy, and begin, game review, to unlock it's dark secrets. One of the biggest ones being about countess Bathory, and just how the heck can she be back as a video game character? Although this all sounds pretty cheesy in some ways, watching it all play out on screen with these particular actors is quite entertaining and creepy in alot of ways.

Alot is revealed about the countess such as how she killed her victims, and when the first of the gamers dies at the hands of the games countess, Sophia Bush's character begins to draw conclusions connecting the eerie circumstances surrounding his death, to that of past incident involving a few murdered local girls. "Stay Alive" slinks on blood, guts, and other related nastiness, and instead relies on it's strong solid mystery aspect. It is after all a pg-13 flick, and while some horror fans might be turned off to the fact that the film is shy with it's graphicness, the mystery of what is occuring is so engaging, it acts as a distraction from the fact we aren't seeing people chopped to pieces on screen.

"Stay Alive" also manages to keep Ms. Bathory well hidden most of the way, not fully showing the countess until near the middle of the movie...where one female character in peril utters a pretty bad ass one liner before she's offed, in what is about the only graphic or semi-graphic death scene in the whole movie. The countess character is pretty creepy looking, and makes for a fantastic villain, especially because she sports a pair of rusty hedgeclipper like weapons in one hand when she pops up on screen.

..and has a very demented twisted look to her. Bell does show a weakness in his writing though when his story nears the end, which is where the remaining gamers after discovering a way to destroy the blood countess,, game review, visit the house of their dead friend to do so. Many things take place in the final act that don't make sense and work to create more questions while giving little to no answers. That doesn't do much for the story since there were already many unanswered questions from act 1 and 2 that had yet to be answered - and for those who didn't pick up on it early on in the movie or who just weren't paying attention, the films ending manages to square away one of "Stay Alive"'s biggest mysteries for you all.

Despite it's story-flawed final act, "Stay Alive" manages to "Stay Alive" (no pun intended) with an interesting and intriguing, game review, story and a pretty creepy looking and viciously wicked villainess, which manages to ensure that the viewer will, game review, be able to "Stay Awake".

Pros: A very Dark, sinister, intriguing, and interesting story. Pretty good acting, great villainess, and nice sceneries especially in the movies climax which shifts locations from a, game review, large house, to a cemetary, to a forest.

The ending was also a total curveball.

Cons:Again the story is too open ended and alot of questions about the countess are left unanswered at the conclusion. Another graphic death or two would've helped as well, too many cut, game review, aways.

Overall:I, game review, liked it alot more, game review, than I though I would, and I think you might too. It's not a splatterfest, but in terms of it's strong story, it's a movie that will leave you thinking after it's all over, and is mostly for the horror fan that can appreciate a good mystery with strong horror elements included.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Review

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a rare game set in the Wild West. As with the original Call of Juarez, the western settings can be breathtaking. The original had several glitches and frustrating parts - especially with regards to platforming. Luckily the sequel has very little jumping and platforming puzzles. Instead, it has a slightly touchy and frustrating "shootout" mode.

The setting of the Wild West is very welcome and rare. There are just not many games that compete with Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. To say that this game is the best "western" game on the market is kind-of ridiculous since it really is the ONLY western game on the market. But it does its job quite well. The graphics are a solid 7/10. Nothing really cutting edge here, but the graphics are good and the framerates remain solid even on high settings.

The story is quite a change-up from the typical shooters out there. It is a welcome change of pace. The characters are fairly well fleshed out and the story is straight forward and able to be followed easily. The cut scenes add to the storyline and the relatively short loading times are supplemented with useful narration

The game play and action sequences are quite good. The regenerating health system is fairly well implemented and never becomes too problematic. The only area which can be a pain are the shootouts. I'm not sure about the console versions, but on PC the player really needs to know the strategy of doing shootouts or it becomes very frustrating. There is really no help or information about how to do them, so at first it's not uncommon to be stuck on a shootout and have to do it over and over again. I actually had to look online to find some tips.

Once you know the technique, the shootouts are not that hard. It's important to keep your opponent near the center and just to the right of your character. That means you will need to side step the opposite direction of the way your opponent is moving. You will also need to listen or count the shootout so you know when the "bell" will ring. It's usually around the 15-20 second mark. The key is to keep your shooting hand VERY close to the gun right before the bell sounds. The fingers on your shooting hand should be wiggling - itching to snatch the gun. Once the bell rings, the player will need to quickly move the mouse down and to the left and then back up again. No need to push any mouse buttons. The gun will automatically be snatched. Then there is a second or two of patience needed. The auto aiming system takes over and the target circle rises up and will eventually slide over the opponent (if he's centered on the screen in front of you) and turn red. As soon as it turns red, the player needs to push the shoot button. Most likely the player will shoot the opponent in the crotch - which is a fitting way for the opponent to die.

Once the player gets the shootouts down, the game is quite enjoyable. Graphics are a solid 7.5/10. Audio is also a 7.5/10. Story and characterization is a good 8.5/10. Playability is a 8/10. Replayability is also quite high at a 8.5/10. Overall, I give this game a 8.2/10.

Remote Controlled Toys

Radio controlled toys such as helicopters and cars provide the excitement that both children and adults desire and encourage interaction between parents and their children. Depending on what you buy, these toys can be enjoyed inside or outside in the garden, yard or park. Most RC toys are relatively easy to control, especially when under adult supervision and are suitable for children 8 years and up.

Puzzles

I highly recommend puzzles. There is a vast array of interesting puzzles in the market place such as the Tripod puzzle, Cmetric Too and of course the highly popular Sudocube which comes in a cube just like the traditional rubik cube. These puzzles are created to stimulate critical thinking and encourage problem solving skills, combining education and fun.

Educational Solar Toys

In today's climate of environmental awareness, solar powered toys and kits are not only great fun, but also introduce children of all ages to the concept of renewable energy and offer adults and their children the experience of building the toys together. Different solar toys offer different degrees of difficulty when it comes to assembling, hence, you can be sure to find one that is both challenging and fun for both parents and child.

Active Toys

Homemade Toys

Finally, there are many inexpensive ways to engage your kids and is fun for parent and child. Nothing beats the old fashion way of paper plane and kite making. Kids' sense of pride in their kites is undeniable. No store-bought kites could have brought these children as close to the mystery and physics of flight as their own creations. Parents would no doubt enjoy teaching their children how to make these toys which they themselves played with as children. Teaching children how to make a toy can be a memorable and meaningful way to spend time with them.

Game Rating System Explained

If you are a video or computer game purchaser or user, you may or may not be familiar with, game review, the rating system for, game review, this type of software. Whether you are buying for yourself or someone else, it is important that you understand how the system works and how the actual game rating is determined. For those who have children in their home it is especially important for you to know what the letters, game review, (i.e. E, T, M, AO) mean before you bring a new game into your home.

The, game review, rating system is a good tool to help anyone determine the appropriateness, game review, of the software.

In the past, entertainment software was pretty simplified with pixilated graphics and very basic sound capabilities, but in the last decade it has changed drastically. A game can be made very realistic. This is exciting for those who like to use the latest software and it can make the gaming experience much more enjoyable. But, in addition to the vastly improved technology, graphics and sound on the software, many game products are becoming increasingly more violent, and more "adult in their themes.

The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) was established as an independent group to rate each game according to age appropriateness, game review, .

Each rating is determined by an independent panel of three reviewers who are not connected with the, game review, entertainment software industry. They look thoroughly at the product and using a "grading" sheet, mark what elements are contained in the game. Most of the time the panel agrees on a rating, but if not, more reviewers are sometimes used.

Then the panel submits their findings to the ESRB who gives them to the manufacturer. Entertainment software companies do not have to use the ESRB, but virtually all of them do. The ESRB has, game review, also established the ARC (Advertising Review Council) which regulates "truth in advertising" for the ads and packaging of a game.

The ratings have two parts. When you purchase software, you will see a bold black letter in a white box on the front of the packaging. This is the symbol. The symbols run from eC (for Early Childhood) to AO (for Adults Only.

) Ratings are based on the amount of violence, sexuality, drug use, gambling, and other material. On the back of the package, game review, you will find another box with a block letter in it. This is the content descriptor box. It will have details of what the content of the software is. This gives you further information to base your purchasing, game review, decisions on.

As a parent or guardian, it is your choice and responsibility to make the entertainment in your home appropriate, game review, .

Why We Play Games, Part 2

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Last week we started to get into the motivation of the gamer. We discussed challenge and its ugly stepsister competition, two of the most common motivators. Today, we look at two more on the way to forming an overall model for what moves us.

Perhaps less common than the first two motivators, creativity is nonetheless an important driving force in the gamer psyche. Though at first gaming doesn't seem like a particularly creative act, what with its formalized rules and structured systems, there is much more room for self expression than one might think. Some games play to this directly through unique presentations or artistic themes. Music games and many of the Sim titles are basically just expressive outlets that happen to be governed by a computerized system of rules. Other creatives find their outlet in multiplayer gaming. The modern MMORPG sports equipment and decorative combinations numbering well into the millions. The Creatively Motivated gamer takes pleasure in designing how their character looks as well as changing how they interact with their environment. Creatively Motivated gamers thrive when outlets are available. Anything involving a high degree of expression, decoration, or a large abstract component draws them. They wilt in gaming environments governed purely by numbers, and in those where presentation is extremely homogeneous.

Though we sometimes don't like to admit it, escapism is a motivation that lives in the heart of every gamer. By design, a game creates an inherently different world. Even games which have as one of their primary goals simulation of some aspect of the real world recast the player into some role they find more exciting than their own. Escaping into the role of adventurer, pilot, quarterback or even zookeeper provides motivation for nearly every gamer. Escapism Motivated gamers seek out games where the environment is rich, comprehensive, real. They thrive in worlds where suspension of disbelief is high, where they can lose themselves in the depth and complexity available to them. They gravitate toward role playing and simulation, environments where the world is rich and believable. They tend to avoid abstract games where the underlying reality is difficult to believe or understand. It is a strange sort of paradox that MMORPGS, with their incredibly deep histories and expansive worlds, are not as attractive to Escapism Motivated gamers as pure RPGs. This effect arises from the multiplayer aspect. Players talking in a public channel about out of game topics or, worse, about the mechanical and numerical aspects of the game world may well ruin the escapists experience and cause them to seek the company of non player characters or others who share their motivation.

Much has been made of the downside of escapism. A gamer who spends too much time in a world not their own can begin to lose touch. This sort of disassociation with reality can, and has, lead to all sorts of problems with work, school and personal relations. This does not mean, however, that escapism is itself an unhealthy thing. It is a basic part of the human experience. The reason we vacation, watch moves, enjoy sporting events or go camping is inherently escapist. As people, we are often unsatisfied with out lot in life. It's natural to seek out activities that allow us to experience something outside of our day to day. Gaming is no different. However, as gamers, we are an oft misunderstood community. We owe it to ourselves and to the world at large both to fight with information, by spreading the positive realities of gaming and gamer culture, and to fight internally against obsession. No matter how good a substitute for the real world a game may seem it is, in the end, only a pastime. Leave it once in a while.

Next week, we conclude with Social Interaction. Then, we'll move on to some sort of unified theory about all this.

Games To Encourage Thinking Skills

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is no doubt about it, using computer games is a great way to encourage children to expand their realm of thinking. Your options for entertaining your child may seem numbered. Many people allow their children to spend quite a bit of time in front of the television. But, what good does that do? If you want them to learn something while they are zoned out, you are completely lost. But, if you flip on the computer, download a great game, you may actually be able to encourage them to learn more and you will encourage good thinking skills as well.

Thinking is not something that everyone can do well. Now, we are referring here to the thought process that goes along with solving problems. For many children, this is something they struggle with. Mom or Dad always takes care of the problems. If something isn't right, just call mom or dad. Even on the television, that is full of real life and imaginary "problems" that need to be solved, there is no encouragement for children to come up with the solution. What happens then? They just sit and watch and let someone else handle the problem.

But, what happens when they are older or in a situation where they have to solve the problem at hand? Do they know how to analyze their thoughts, ideas, and to find the right solution? Many don't. But, if you would like your child to be the one who does know how to flip the switch on and solve the problem, consider allowing them to sit in front of the computer as opposed to the television.

Okay, so too much time in front of the computer isn't much better, but there are ways to you make what time you do allow them to sit at the computer to be good times. This is you simply need to maximize what they are doing. There are several good games out there that can be used to stimulate thinking in children. For many people, this is the perfect way to go to encourage children to learn how to solve problems without letting them in on it! Yes, because games are fun, the child will not fight you on playing them. Much unlike a lesson plan, this way seems to encourage children to come back to the game time and time again, therefore getting the experiences they need to learn a thing or two.

But, what are these games? What are the options that are out there for your child? There are many games, and although we will only talk about a few here, find ones that will work well with your child. What are his or her likes and dislikes? Sports? Television characters? Perhaps they enjoy space or under water adventures. Search out those games that will intrigue them as well as encourage them to think.

Some to consider include Big Thinkers Kindergarten and the series of Freddi Fish Adventures as well as many other games specifically for children. These are mainly for younger children, but you'll find many more for older children as well. In fact, consider giving your older kids more puzzle related games to help them along this course as well.

When you give your child the gift of being a problem solver, they will work through the situations that happen to them, big and small, without fear of not knowing how to handle them. They will be more likely to do well in the real world then. What's more is that you can feel good about all that time they spend in front of the tube (even though it's the computer not the television!)

Magic Encyclopedia [Game Download]

Magic Encyclopedia [Game Download] Review

This game is a beautifully made hybrid of the hidden object and adventure genres. The objects you seek are broken up into many pieces. Some pieces can be placed in their proper locations when they are reconstituted, but others must be used alone or in combination with other pieces to unlock the next door, rather like the escape-the-room games such as Trapped: The Abduction and Escape the Museum. The pieces are well-hidden but are not tiny, and the scenes are uncluttered, so you're not dredging through large heaps of items lying all over.

There is an adequate hint system, so you shouldn't find yourself stuck and frustrated often. The puzzles are challenging and some require concentration and patience, so this is a game for older kids or adults; a five-year old might not have the skills yet to complete some of the tougher tasks.

The game is a good value in that the time it takes to complete it is greater than most seek and find games, and it is challenging enough to play well several times. If you enjoy this kind of game, try also the second in the series, Magic Encyclopedia: Moon Light, which is equally worthy of your time. Other similarly made games include the two Mortimer Beckett offerings and Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst, Campfire Legends: The Hookman, Department 42, and Vampire Saga: Pandora's Box. This new hybrid genre is growing rapidly, and these are among the best to date.

Battlefield - Bad Company 2 - The Review

Format
Xbox 360/Playstation 3/PC

Style
First Person Shooter

Modes
Single Player, Online

Pros
Great graphics, Awesome online, lots of online, game review, weapons, hardly any camping. Destruction 2.0

Cons
The campaign is just fair; Movement and controls can be a little tricky.

Introduction
This is the sequel to Dice's widely popular Bad Company Franchise. The games offer plenty of action, witty remarks, Great action scenes, and plenty, game review, of destruction. With the introduction of Destruction 2.

0 however, things were turned up a notch, rather than just blowing walls out of buildings, you can now take down entire houses. It makes the online/campaign fun and challenging.

Gameplay
First of all, I will not be, game review, comparing this game to Modern warfare 2. This is a review, not a comparison.
The first thing many gamers' do when, game review, they bring home a game is to try the campaign a little bit. When you start this campaign, you may be a little confused, The first mission takes place in World War 2, now you might be wondering, game review, what this time era has to do with the whole campaign and all, but they tell you fairly quickly why, It involves some weapon of mass destruction The Japanese had made in The Great war.

I said that the campaign is not to great, but the story is, I really enjoyed the story although gameplay was slow at times, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 really delivered when it came to story, and action scenes, at some parts throughout the campaign, you are the minigunner of a UH-60 Blackhawk, others have you flying a UAV to make the town ahead safe, or driving tanks throughthe countryside. There was one mission which I really loved,, game review, it had you running from house to house trying to avoid frostbite, and it was a fun mission, which I am glad they implemented into the game.

The controls are different then most shooting games though, RT or R2 is to knife, LT or L2 is to throw a grenade, but you get use to the controls pretty, game review, quickly. The movement is slow, but you get use to that too, and it's not always slow, it only seems to be slow when you really want to turn around fast to shoot some enemy.

The online game has you traversing Snowy, game review, or Sandy battlefields, destroyed cities, and towns yet to be destroyed. What makes this game really fun however, are the vehicles; you can fly Blackhawks, MIL MI-28, game review, Havoc's MIL MI-24 Hind's And an AH-64 Apache.

Aside from the helicopters, you can also drive Tanks, Humvee's, All Terrain Vehicles, Attack Boats, and Sea-Doo's. They, game review, are all really fun to drive around in, but I prefer, game review, the Helicopters the most.

The ranking system Battlefield: Bad Company 2 works really well. You must gain points for each kit you use; there are 4, Assault, Engineer, Medic, and Recon. As you may have guessed, the assault class use's Assault Rifles, the Engineer class use's Submachine guns, and the Recon class use's, game review, Sniper Rifles.

Gaining Points for a specific class will get you weapons, gadgets,, game review, and specializations fro that class. You also rank up though, there are, game review, 50 levels, and each time you rank up you gain a pistol, a shotgun,, game review, or a rifle for use with all of the kits.

The classes work, game review, together really well online, and you can't have your squad of four all being the Recon class, or all engineers, because you need ammo from the assault, game review, class, you need health and revives, game review, from the medic class, and you need engineers to take out enemy vehicles.

They all work together very well, and it is recommended that you have one in each squad.

Graphics/Audio
This game has awesome graphics, they are much better than the originals, and they are up pretty high for the most recent games released as well. You can make out the fibres on gloves and everything overall, the landscape, the vehicles and the people fighting in it look awesome.
The sound in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is awesome, when you first turn on the game and hear the explosions, you can tell that Dice did a wonderful job with the sound in this game,, game review,, game review, it is very clear, crisp and precise.

Ratings
Graphics - 10/10
Audio - 10/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Replayability - 7/10
Final Score - 9/10
