Vector Conflict by Digyourowngrave Games
Today I am reviewing the 3D shooter game called Vector Conflict: The Siege by Digyourowngrave Games.
You start out in a space bunker as a defender/shooter. You use the mouse to move your cross hairs around the area as the enemies come in. There are 4 ways the enemies can come from, you use the A and D key to navigate through the ways they come through and the W key to do a 180 degree turn.
You will also have a radar that shows what, game review, color the enemies are (which type) and how close they are to you.
The game explains what exactly you are and how the enemies are coming from space trying to defend the bunker you reside in. Through the game there are many different types of enemies that come through space trying to destroy you, each having their own unique style. For example one of the first enemies you encounter is the purple enemy, all, game, game review, review, the purple enemies try to do is run into you but cause little damage, game review, . The next enemy you will encounter is a small tank-like enemy, you will acquire a few rockets which easily destroy this tank-like enemy in one hit.
A few more enemies you encounter will fly at you and, game review, try to crash into you, stronger tank-like enemies, plane like enemies that shoot at you while flying around, and the orange boss, which flies around slowly but, game review, has a lot of health.
Later in the game you will acquire an electric type shock weapon which stuns all the ground units within range, disabling them for a few moments, another item you will acquire is the nuke, which is, game review, extremely powerful in that it destroys, game review, all the enemies around you in your range.
After each round you acquire resources from surviving time and from destroying the different enemies. With the resources you acquire you can purchase upgrades, a few of these upgrades include upgrading your primary weapon, rocket supply, nuke supply, electric shock supply, resource gaining speed, shield regeneration, and a few more. The game has 3 difficulty settings to it them being easy, medium, and hard. I myself have only tried easy and it is still quite difficult. The game does not have that many rounds to it but it includes another game type called survival in which, game review, you try and survive as long as you can.
The game also includes a few achievements achieved through different parts,, game review, game review, of the game. When you beat the game you will be given a high-score in which you can submit to digyourowngrave games website. The game, game review, is extremely fun and addicting.

God of War Review
Since God,, game review, game review, of War was first demoed back in early 2004, it's been on the wish list of many action/adventure fans. God of War begins with a suicide, that of the main character. While this may sound like an exceedingly short game, it becomes clearer over time. Kratos, a tough Spartan warrior, throws himself from the highest cliff in Greece. As he plummets, you see the events leading up to the suicide. Essentially, Kratos was transformed into a killing machine by Ares, the God of War, who then tricked him into committing a sin.
Kratos seeks vengeance on the Ares. This begins, game review, the combat, and the emotional tale that surrounds the action.
The setting in itself is powerful, with vast open environments that can be quite beautiful. The detail in some of the locales is quite spectacular, and the same applies to the creatures that you will encounter. Each have a number of variants.
The camera is fixed. A term which may (and, game review, probably will) put some gamers off, due to the unspectacular fixed camera in other games.
However, Sony have evaded all the problems that arose from previous games, and it works tremendously well. It zooms in and out, game review, at certain times, making platforming objectives so much easier. Sony have made it seem almost beneficial to the standard manipulative camera view.
Kratos comes armed with chains that are attached to his wrists. At the end of these chains are sharp blades, for swinging and building up fierce force and power. The viciousness of the weapon fits Kranos's character neatly.
Not only visually satisfying, but the sound of the swinging and clanging together of these vast blades is, game review, quite terrifying. Athena, game review, also loans her giant blade to the warrior, but most of, game review, the time it seems so much easier to just use the chained blades.
As mentioned in the Rawpulse Preview, Kratos can sweep enemies into the air, and follow with a series of juggling attacks, for an effective combination. Once enemies have been eliminated, they break, game review, up into glowing red orbs, which can be traded for upgrades.
One slight problem with the AI, is that it seems to be more aggressive that smart, but you don't really notice, as you'll be battling your way through.
Button sequence attacks make a truly exciting element of the game. When an enemy is worn down from the basic attacks, Kratos can move in and perform a finishing move, or instigate a mini game fatality, which involves a series of buttons to be pressed when prompted. The tougher opponents will require a more complex series of buttons, but the reward is great.
Kratos will, game review, perform some spectacular moves, complete with flips, stabbing, and a finishing move that is disturbingly violent.
Not only do creatures, game review, leave the red orbs for trading, but also some, game review, drop orbs to increase your health. Some creatures deliver, game review, magical energy, or a combination of several orbs. If you press the wrong button during a sequence attack, you will leave Kratos open for a violent counter attack. While it may be simple to just avoid this kind of attack and kill the opponent with a traditional attack, it's so tempting to unleash a damaging series of splendid attacks, game review, .
As you progress through the game, other powers are given to you by the Gods. Ripping, game review, the head from Medusa delivers her evil gaze; Poseidon donates an electrical attack,, game review, Zeus his thunderbolt, and Hades, with an Army of Hades power. These powers can be upgraded, similarly to weapons,, game review, with advantages to higher power levels. Additionally, Kratos can release the rage of the Gods, which offers invulnerability, and enhanced attack power. Combined with some, game review, of the previously stated powers, Kratos is deadly.
For an action game, God of War contains, game review, some of the best puzzles. They make sense in terms of the story and settings, and they seem to fit in with the current level position. The puzzles may not be complex, but the main theme is action, so it makes the game seem more whole and complete.
God of War provides an unprecedented, game review, thrill, and is a real pleasure to play.

Video Game Conference Sees Big Industry Change
The video game industry's annual showcase is saying goodbye to scantily clad booth babes, extravagant multimillion dollar exhibits, blaring lights and pounding music. Celebrity appearances from the likes of Paris Hilton or Snoop Dogg are a thing of the past, too.
This year's version of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, renamed the E3 Media & Business Summit, will be a toned-down affair as organizers, game review, hope to have a far less flashy discussion on new and upvoming video games.
The event, looks to be more like a country club getaway, an invitation-only gathering complete with luxury beachside hotels, sushi restaraunts and meetings in private conference rooms.
To put it more diplimatically,, game review, "It's about the quality of connection for leaders, game review, of the industry," said Michael Gallagher, who heads up the Entertainment Software Association, the trade group that puts together the show.

Wilson's company wasn't invited to the new E3 that's being held in a handful of hotels along the beach in Santa Monica, CA. He isn't the only one.
Only about 30 of the largest video game software and hardware companies are attending, down from the hundreds that packed the sprawling convention center in previous years.
Also missing will be the, game review, army of smalltime bloggers, zealous game fans and others who somehow managed to infiltrate the trade-only event.
As, game review, someone who was at, game review, the first E3 in 1995 and attended every one since, Dorothy Ferguson said she believes the new format will benefit the 3,000 or so people attending.

"At the end you felt like a pinball in a pinball machine. It, game review, was sensory overload and it was really difficult to hear anything."
This event, will focus on the industry's largest players, including, game review, No. 1 game-software maker Electronic Arts, game review, Inc. and console makers Microsoft Corp., Sony Corp., and Nintendo Corp.

This laser-centered game, game review, for the Wii is actually a collection of nine games. While it received high marks for its playability, criticisms included the individual games' predictability and redundancy. Still, the game became a smash hit.
In fact, Wii Play has become the best-selling non-bundled console video game of all time.
3. Pokemon Platinum Version.
Ironically, while this game was only an upgrade from the game "Pokemon Diamond and Pearl," it was a huge success. It also received rave review for the features that it contains, including its enhanced graphics and interface.
4. Mario Kart.
This go-cart-inspired game helped to introduce a new generation of gamers to the popular Nintendo characters. The series was launched in 1992.
This version became extremely successful and even broke, game review, several Guinness World Records. It includes, game review, some past famous characters from the series, including Donkey Kong Jr., Yoshi, Koopa Troopa, and of course-Mario and Luigi.
5. Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360).
Ironically, this is the seventh game in the series from Capcom. The reviews for the game were basically positive. Although trailers for Resident, game review, Evil 5 received some initial criticism, the game had over four million worldwide downloads while the service was available for the Xbox Live and PlayStation Store formats, game review, .
6. Killzone 2.
The success of this game hooked gamers from the moment the first trailer was released. It received extremely high reviews, with features such as playability, game review, and levelling receiving particularly high marks.
7. Call of Duty: World at War.
This game is the fifth installment in the series. It received generally positive reviews from various online gaming review sites. Many reviews praised the game's setting and playability. However, others criticized the scope of the game as too wide, which they, game review, argued negatively affected the flow of the game.
8. Resident Evil 5 (PlayStation).
9. Halo Wars.
Deviating from the previous installments, game review, of the series, this one moves away from the first-person perspective of the previous ones. The game broke sales records after its release, while receiving mostly positive reviews from the critics. The PC version received more lukewarm reviews than the console versions, game review, .
10. Street Fighter IV.
This, game review, was definitely a huge oldie-but-goodie game for the year. The series has a loyal following, and this version didn't disappoint them.
The home version (along with the arcade version) of the game received outstanding reviews, even though it was the first instalment of the series in about a decade.

Xbox 360 Game Review - Six Days in Fallujah
Six Days in Fallujah makes a claim to be one of the most practical war Xbox 360 games ever made, and it is also one of the most questionable. The game has gathered so much negative press the publisher, Konami, dropped it like a time-honoured hot potato, leaving developer Atomic Games in a dicey position. If they do not get a publisher, game review, shortly, the company may stop work and the game may never see the daylight, game review, .
Six Days in Fallujah follows the real-world exploits of US forces in the 46-day battle that occurred in this central Iraqi city.
The battle started on Nov seven, 2004 and lasted to December twenty-three of the same year. More than one thousand insurgents died, and 38 U.S. Infantrymen were killed. The game has taken more than 3 years to develop at a price of twenty-million, and it is not finished because of a shortage of funding and the danger that there won't be a publisher to market the, game review, game to customers.
Practical war games are nothing new, as titles like Call of Duty are among some of the most well-liked of all Xbox 360 games.
The furore over Six Days in Fallujah is that it's too real. It was developed with the aid of marines that basically, game review, took part in the battle. They added their experiences,, game review, their viewpoints, their fears, as well as their names and likenesses.
Some claim this game is disrespectful, game review, to those that were killed. They, game review, call it unseemly. The furore comes from infantrymen, officials, anti-war groups, members of the U.S.
So, are you able to blame Konami for pulling out of this? Presented as a third-person, game review, shooter, Six Days in Fallujah follows the exploits of the 3rd Corps over the course of 6 days as they try to liberate the town of Fallujah of insurgents.
Even though it's a war game, the brand is filed as survival horror. The nightmares of war should be apparent. Survival is the name of the game as you never can tell what risks lurk round the next corner or behind the following door.
As the genuine marines did, you'll make your way thru the traditional streets of Fallujah going door to door in pursuit of insurgents. These rebels will stop at nothing to kill you. A lot of them are, game review, resigned not to leave the town alive as they lay in wait to ambush you.
You may search many houses and rooms with no success, and then, game review, when you expect it least the insurgents will surprise, game review, and attack and let's never forget the booby traps. Urban warfare is a different sort of beast. It needs patience, planning, and superb strategic strategies, all of which is outlined, game review, in the game.
Weapons include attack rifles, grenades, C4 explosives, and air strikes,, game review, which can be called in to clear a building from overhead.
Explosives are used to blast holes in walls in the hope of surprising insurgents by making a surprising entrance. Courtesy of a recently designed engine, the environment is completely destructible.
This annihilation plays a vital component in the method, since you may use some for cover and even implode entire structures on the enemy. As in real life, you'll use whatever limited, game review, tools, weapons, and secrets you have at your, game review, disposal. According to Atomic Games ' president Peter, game review, Tamte, unlike the other media, the interactive nature of the computer game permits players to put themselves in pragmatic decision making processes.
In this manner, players will experience war as near to first hand as possible. Pictures, books, and even stories are passive. Though they may chronicle events as exactly as practicable, you can't influence the result. He claims that such interaction gives a deeper level, game review, of understanding.
We should hope that Six Days in Fallujah unearths a publisher. This is a tale that has to be told. It's more than a game. For those, game review, that are against its release, I am able to respect that but you've got the freedom to choose not to buy or play it.
Let, game review, us always remember those that died so we can live and let live.

James Cameron's Avatar the Game Review
Judging by the lines at, game review, the movie theaters, there are only, game review, a handful of people who haven't seen James Cameron's Avatar the Movie. It promised to be a whole new level of graphic entertainment and it delivered. As with most new movie launches, tie-ins from fast food outlets, soft drinks, game review, and of course toys were produced pre-launch. Cameron primed the pump with the release of James Cameron's Avatar the Game about 3 weeks before the theater release of the movie.
Let me say first, the graphics in this game are outstanding. You can play it in regular mode or 3-D if you have the right monitor/TV. Unfortunately, I don't so my review is based on the 2-D game.
One of the first things you will discover is you have the ability to play as a human or a, game review, Navi. Each has its own advantages. The Navi is extremely hard to kill. So, game review, much so that many gamers are complaining. They have a disadvantage in travel. To complete the missions, it is necessary to travel to 11 different sectors on the planet of Pandora, game review, .
This takes a while if you are a Navi.
Playing the human gives you the advantage of using vehicles. You can get to the mission sites much faster. From there it's the usual game play of collecting, game review, arms and items vital to the mission.
I think the graphics of the game were fantastic. I'm glad I was able, game review, to play, game review, this game and would recommend it to anyone. The travel lets you experience, game review, different terrains, jungles, rivers and pretty cool plant life.
The, game review, attacks are explosive, be careful if you have a dynamic sound system, you'll wake the neighbors. This part of the game exceeded my expectations. I played the game for hours, just to play and explore Pandora.
Now the downside, I got bored. The missions are like so many other games and quickly became tedious. Especially when I played the Navi because it took so long to get places. As a human, I found it especially frustrating because the Navi's are so unevenly equipped with lifeforce.
I got tired of attacking, attacking and more attacking to proceed. These things just wont die.
The game itself is a mix of first person shooter and leveling up. It doesn't really, game review, matter how good you are as a shooter, you still have to complete missions to level up so it becomes rather frustrating after a while. This was supposed to be the future of gaming and it doesn't, game review, quite live up to the hype. That is unless you bought it with the intention of spending more time exploring Pandora on your own.
If that's it, the you'll probably love this game. At least for a while.
I was very excited when I heard about the movie. I was even more excited when I read the pre-release info about the game. It's really a great, game review, game from a graphics point of view and I recommend you try it, but I'm also glad I didn't fork over the big bucks to buy it. I got it on a 10 day free trial. Try it for yourself and see what you think. You may want to add it, game review, to your collection.

Sex and Violence in Video Games; Teens at Risk
Have you, game review, as a parent wondered what is going on with all these nasty and violent video games lately? Are you taken aback by some, game review, of the content your teenagers are playing with in their video games? Does it at least bother you a little bit?
Personally,, game review, I have often watched the Video Game reviews on G4 DirectTV Channel and have thought that some of the games were over the top [sex, blood and guts] but then again that is why they sell so well. And we have an entire group of kids blasting, game review, their Gangster Rap Music too, so there are issues everywhere.
Certainly I am not one to single out an industry. But I do concur that it would be much better to have folks.
All things in moderation really; having impressionable minds, game review, of human children play destructive, sexual and violent games can be problematic, but since, game review, the species is problematic in those regards it stands to reason that some violence impressions can help with, game review, the balance and reality of the world we live in too. One parent recently stated in an online think tank on the subject;
"What is, game review, worse is that it teaches and reinforces that it is FUN to kill, maim, and inflict pain.
"
Myself, I, game review, have noticed that those who like to kill things do indeed get a rush out of the taking of life, even from smashing a bug on a sidewalk or in hunting. In sports we teach thru a positive reward system [trappings of victory] that it is fun to inflict pain. So, the virtual reality extension of such perhaps simply encompasses another group of people,, game review, kids who were not big enough, agile enough, early uses of dexterity, game review, or athletically inclined to play football, a chance or outlet for any pent up aggression, which they had no escape for previously.
Now then is that bad or good? Or is it being taken too far as the video games make such acts okay in the VR World and an impressionable mind, which is straddling the two worlds might or, game review, will develop a mindset that such violence is okay?
Maybe we as parents should perhaps put a little more emphasis on the subject matter that we allow our kids to have in their video games. Video games can become addictive and problematic for teens and it is the parent's responsibility to see that these things do not get out of hand.
Please consider all this in 2006.

The 2 Most Crucial Skills In Game Testing
There are two major skills that are absolutely crucial for a game tester to have.
I'd even go as far to say that even with all your qualifications and experience, without these skills you'd find it very hard to get a game testing job.
What are they you ask?
1. You must be able to communicate effectively.
I'll put in another way for you:
You must have great communication skills.
By this I mean you need to be able to express exactly what your, game review, thoughts are so that everybody is on the same terms and knows, game review, how to go about fixing the issue.
2. You must be able to transfer these, game review,, game review, good communication skills into your writing.
When programmers are reading your bug report, they need to know exactly what the problem is and how to reproduce it. They don't want to waste any time trying to understand, game review, what you have written.
Your writing needs to be clear enough that anybody in could pick up the bug report and understand what the problem is and how to fix it.
Now don't get me wrong, none of that is easy to do, even for those that are natural speakers or writers.
But there are a few relatively easy exercises you can do to improve your communication and writing skills, game review, .
Exercise 1
This, game review, exercise involves choosing a simple object (such as a paper clip, watch, flower etc) and without actually hinting to what the object is, writing a description of how to draw it.
Then see how many people can follow your instructions and draw the object, then correctly guess what they have drawn.
Exercise 2
This is an extension of the previous exercise, but bringing the game, game review, testing aspect into it.
Next time you are playing a game and happen to find a cool glitch, rather than just showing your friends, write a description of the glitch and email it to your friends to see if they can reproduce it.
Exercise 3
This exercise simply acts, game review, , game review, to improve your, game review,, game review, writing skill, but if you do it correctly you might be able to use, game review, it as an example of your expertise in the video game industry.
The exercise involves starting your own blog.
You can do this for free at blogger.com
Your blog could include game reviews, latest game news, cheats and tips... and of course descriptions of glitches.
Remember, these exercises don't have to be done all the time (however the more often you do them the better you will become), the key is to develop a simple routine to practice your writing skills.
It's going to take time but when it comes to game testing, you are going to have to do a, game review, lot of writing... and the only way to improve your writing is to practice.
