Want To Know How To Copy Nintendo Wii Games? Here's The Easiest Way

If you're a fan of video games, then today's write-up could be interesting. We are going to deal with how one can duplicate games using the computer. There does exist a considerable false impression that this is just not an easy matter - but it really is.

The approach we'll present you may be used in the copying of all video game systems. You can easily burn XBOX, PS3 and Wii games without any difficulty. Same is applicable to pc games or disks of some of the earlier game systems.

Though this may be obvious, we do wish to indicate that we are revealing this article to explain how you can generate backup copies of the games you already personally own. Duplicating copyrighted products that you have not bought is obviously not something that we support.

It is possible that you experimented with using the same exact software that you utilize to copy a music CD. These software programs are useless if you are wanting to copy games.

A specific and unique copyright guard is installed on each game by its creator. These protections inhibit your computer from having the capacity to read through what exactly is on the disk. No working backup ıs going to be produced, considering that the computer just can't even understand the information on the original game correctly.

Not surprisingly, since there is this type of interest on men and women to have the ability to copy and backup video games, you can find companies that have created software that possesses the technology necessary to bypass these protections. Not just can you read the information on the disk with the help of this software, but it additionally lets you copy your video game.

You should definitely choose a program that could copy many different games any time you're shopping for one. Perhaps you only have one game system today, yet you can't predict what is actually going to happen, so you may as well get ready by obtaining a program that can replicate all games.

A moneyback promise is an extra detail that I regularly choose. It's always the safer route to take. If it turns out I find a concern, I know I'll receive a refund.

As soon as you have the program set up, it's as easy as starting it and pushing a couple of buttons. You may be expected to place the video game disk in initially so as your computer can create a copy of the game information.

You will then have to stick in a new disk so the computer can easily copy the original's material onto it. The final result? Two exact same copies of the exact same game.

Whenever you're looking to get copies of your video games, take full advantage of this very easy approach.

Do Your Kids Enjoy Garden Games?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Your garden could be providing a wonderful environment, allowing your children to play safely and happily. But are your kids interested in garden games? Are they something that they enjoy? If not, there may be some simple steps that you can take to make more of your garden space.

Too many children seem to spend far too many hours indoors. This has always seemed something of a mystery to me. It seems strange to think that many kids would prefer to sit indoors playing computer games, rather than enjoying more active pursuits.

This seems particularly strange on a warm summer's day. Who would want to be sat indoors in those circumstances? When I see a child sat watching television or playing video games, I can't help but wonder whether they are missing out.

They're certainly missing out on getting any real exercise. Are they also lacking in the social contact that they should be getting? Encouraging your children to spend time playing in the garden could be a more balanced approach, allowing them to have fun, to exercise and to mix more with the rest of the family.

All of this may sound good but how easy is it to encourage kids to put the video games away and to spend time outdoors? The answer is that it can be difficult. Many kids see alternatives to video games as being dull and boring.

Fortunately, you can help to change their opinions by providing a garden environment that is full of fun. The key is to take some time to think about how attractive a place your garden is in terms of entertaining your kids. If it doesn't offer very much, then there's no time like the present to make improvements!

This may sound like an expensive task but it doesn't need to be. There are a wide range of options available to you. You might opt to introduce some ball games, or you could look at installing a trampoline in your garden.

The possibilities are endless and there are toys and games suitable for gardens of almost any size. The important thing to do is to use your imagination - you'll be amazed by what you can do.

If your children haven't previously enjoyed garden games then here's your chance to help them do so.

Holiday Party Games, Best Enjoyment Game Plan For Kids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Holiday Party Games are fun and excitement. You need to plan the games in such a way that the kids would really love each and every game event that they are asked to participate in. There are a lot of games that are repeated in different parties and it is best to introduce the ones that are not being played before. You can think of some creative games yourself but below are two that you might take as different from what you have organized in your previous parties.

Let Us Make Jewelry

Let Us Make Jewelry is a very special Holiday Party Game for the kids. In this game, you are going to provide the kids with the beads, elastic cord, scissors to make bracelets and necklaces, as well as assistance if they are unable to work things out, so they do not feel frustrated and know that help is always around. Your beads must have printing on them according to the theme of your party. For example, for your animal themed party, you have beads that have pictures of animals on them. The kids would love every bit of their time making necklaces and bracelets and this is something that they are going to take home as a souvenir.

Guess The Animal

This is a very exciting and a funny Holiday Party Game. In this game, you are going to pick out a kid or an adult who is really good in making sounds of an animal. The individual who is going to make the sounds is asked to stand in front of all the kids and then the kids raise their hands to answer as to who the animal is. The kid who gives the right answer is given a prize. It would be best that all the kids in the party are given a gift so that everyone feels really good.

The basic theme of a holiday party is to have fun and this is what should be its focus. There are a lot of other games that you can plan on to make your party a true success.

Why We Play Games, Part 3

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In part 2 of this series we took a look at Creative Expression and Escapism, two significant motivators of the common gamer. The week before that, we covered Challenge and Competition. This week we have a look at Socialization and try to tie it all together.

Social interaction is a subject on which we gamers take a fair bit of static from our non-gaming peers. Sometimes this is because they mistake differing priorities for introversion. Wanting to talk about the relative merits of the Western Plaguelands against Winterspring as a post 55 grinding location isn't really any different from wanting to talk about the strength of the Bill's secondary, its just that one of them is relevant to a somewhat narrow audience (give it time.) Sometimes, however, the criticism is merited. We tend to be somewhat socially awkward folk, in part because the hobbies in which we invest a sizeable amount of our time have rigid rules governing most interactions, making them poor training for the free wheeling reality of human discourse. For some gamers, the Social Interaction found in the gaming experience is a primary motivator.

Social activity in gaming occurs on many levels. At a very low level, gaming can be a reinforcer for existing social groups. Think of a group of friends getting together to play a board game or some Half Life. The social activity found in modern online games can be much broader in scope. MMORPGs, to which discussion of the current state of gaming always seems to gravitate, are essentially groups of people that already share some primary common link. The friendships formed through online cooperation and friendly competition can be one of the biggest draws of such games. Anyone who has ever stayed up later than they should because their guild needed them or because someone asked them to has experienced this. These online relationships are no less real, no less significant than their offline analogues. They are, however, different.

The interaction that takes place within a game is structured and often, online gamers see only part of one another. It is difficult for a group formed around a particular activity to bond as deeply as a group of friends that exists solely for the purpose of supporting one another. To avoid turning to diatribe on not forgetting your real loved ones we'll stop following that chain of thought. The important thing is that some game players are purely Socially Motivated. Such individuals thrive online, where other players can be met and interacted with. For these people, the heavier the social component of the game, the better. Interestingly, many games with a high degree of social complexity also have a large amount of the mathematical complexity that may drive away socially motivated gamers. In pure form, this type of gamer is seeking an experience that blurs the line between games and chat environment.

Challenge. Competition. Creation. Escape. Socialization. Five different motivators, all of which combine to make up the motivation of a particular gamer. We could add more, certainly, but these will do for now. So where do we go with this? I'm having to physically restrain myself from drawing a pentagonal map and plotting individual gamers on the five motivational axes. While it would look neat and might be an interesting topic for an esoteric role-playing text, it wouldn't get us anywhere.

A more useful tack, perhaps, is to think about what motivates us individually. Knowing yourself and what drives you can help you figure out what sort of games you should be playing and, more importantly, which will never give you anything but frustration. Understanding the motivations of others can give us insight that will better help us relate. Many arguments over what to do in online games arise because the different party members are motivated differently. A Creative and a Challenger aren't likely to crave the same activities from a night of dungeon delving. Nor are an Escapist and a Competitive going to even speak the same way about a game. For one, a game may be a world waiting for his immersion. For the other, a game is a matrix of numbers waiting to be solved and conquered. We all have a little of each in us and if we can understand what drives us we can both better interact with one another and increase the joy we find in gaming.

Old Mans Review of the Nintendo Wii Game System

It's true, I'm an old timer. Approaching 60 years, game review, old. That doesn't beggarly I'm asleep though. Not yet anyway, game review, . I've consistently enjoyed video amateur starting waaaay aback with the aboriginal Atari 2600, and aboriginal Nintendo bold systems such as the SNES. Well, some things never change. A acceptable bold aback again is apparently still a acceptable game. Every year the systems get added avant-garde decidedly the anamnesis and graphics. Some of the new systems are about too clear acute for me.

I don't charge to see every texture, every brand of grass, to accept a acceptable time. In 2006, Nintendo appear the Wii arrangement and my babe got, game review, one for Christmas. The Wii was a altered arrangement mostly due to its controller, a actual acute limited ascendancy device. This accessory is actual authentic and is a amusement to use in abounding games. The bold itself can use the Wiimote in a bulk, game review, of ways. It can be captivated in altered admonition such as pointing a flashlight, or alongside like a bike handle.

There are several controls on the Wiimote including a directional pad, buttons, and a activate blazon button beneath the Wiimote. The Wiimote makes this arrangement altered and offers abundant, game review, alternate wireless control, game review, . Some added absorbing appearance of the Wii are its adeptness to play earlier Nintendo games, such as GameCube games, as able-bodied as earlier Nintendo 64 amateur and even SNES amateur through the basic channel. This is a big move in the appropriate administration as far as I'm concerned, because it's nice to not carelessness, game review, the earlier amateur for newer models.

The Wii aswell connects wired, or wireless to the internet, and to Nintendo. This allows for abounding added appearance on the arrangement including browsing the Internet, and the download of "Wiiware" games. There are aswell channels on the Wii for photo applications, news, acclimate and more. To top off all of this, the Nintendo at, game review, its release, was one of the a lot of bargain bold systems of its day. It has become, game review, the a lot of accepted bold arrangement of all, game review, time.

Many of the amateur for the Wii are centered about its controller. It comes with a sports bold backpack that appearance bowling, tennis and added games, game review, . In these amateur the Wiimote is acclimated as one would use the bowling ball, or a tennis racquet. One accept to be a bit authentic if accomplishing this, not to bandy the Wiimote through the TV screen. Nintendo addresses this by adhering a wrist band to the Wiimote, and reminds players during the bold to use the straps..Bowling is a authentic all about admired of abounding generations.

A lot of humans adolescent or old adore this authentic representation of the absolute thing. There are a ample bulk of amateur accessible for the Wii. Abounding of them are sports aggressive games, active games; addle blazon games, and even ballista games. One, game review, of my admired amateur, game review, for the Wii, is Resident Evil, game review, 4, a aboriginal being shooter. (Not bad for an old guy?). In this bold the wiimote is acclimated as a gun, rifle, or knife, while the nunchuck ambassador is acclimated to airing around.

I will not go into RE's bold play at abyss, game review, at this point because it is absolutely admirable of its own review. The aboriginal time, game review, I saw the game, I anticipation it would not be my blazon of game. It appearance, game review, some actual gross and agitated scenes,, game review, although the artwork is exceptional, game review, . If you shoot a crank like appearance in the head, or bang him in the head, it explodes in what sounds like a accomplished allotment exploding.

But already you get over these gross things, the bold is actual agreeable to say the least. The Wiimote makes using a rifle, gun or knife actual realistic. Its rather agreeable to see anyone arena the game, sitting on a armchair slashing abroad with the wiimote.RE4 aswell includes some able and admirable addle like activity. All in all, I'd accept to say it's one of the best amateur I've anytime played on any system,, game review, but the Wiimote absolutely makes it abundant added enjoyable. It takes abounding abounding hours to complete this game, and it is a lot of fun.

Strangely enough,, game review, this is aswell one of the a lot of bargain amateur for the Wii. The soundtrack, admirable action and accomplished bold play accomplish this a must, for the Wii player. I aswell adore a bold alleged Smooth Moves which absolutely makes use of the Wiiremote,, game review, game review, which is referred to as a "baton" in this game. In this bold you are arena hundreds of micro games, aggravating to do simple things like aperture a bottle, driving, beating a nail, all in breach seconds.

Another big accession for the Wii is a bold alleged Wii-Fit. This is a basic, game review, exercise and exercise trainer that has become absolutely popular. This bold gives the eyewitness a conditioning as he completes assorted backbone and aspect exercises. Wii-Fit if appropriately done will absolutely advance your exercise level. I acclaim the Wii to abounding people, adolescent and old as a abundant accession to their home entertainment. Take it from an old man, its lots of fun, and Wii should all never belittle the accent of fun.

There is now a video games console to suit practically every, game review, need, taste and budget. But the range and diversity, game review, of gaming systems, never mind the games themselves is a daunting prospect to the uninitiated. This guide - adapted from, game review, Johnny Minkley's excellent overview of video game consoles at productsifter (dot) com - will answer all your questions, and arm, game review, you with the information you need to make your purchase in confidence. The raison d'etre of any games console is, fundamentally, gaming, notes Johnny, game review, .

But today's systems offer much more. Are you an online gamer? Are childrens' games a priority? Want to take, game review, full advantage of that 50-inch flat-screen plasma, game review, TV? Or are you just looking for cheap hassle-free, game review, fun with friends and family? Johnny, who has been using video game consoles for 20 years and writing about them for more than seven,, game review, concludes that:Nintendo, game review, Wii is the best console for familiesNintendo DS Lite is the best handheld consolePlayStation, game review, 2 is the best budget consoleXbox 360 is the best console for online gaming The new PlayStation 3 is the, game review, best high-definition video games consoleOnce you've decided what you want the console for and which one to get, where next?

Here are the key things to keep in mind to buy a games console in complete confidence:1. Watch out for worthless extrasMany shops offer bundle deals in addition to selling stand-alone consoles. Typically they throw a load of games in for "free". While the savings can be substantial with such deals they can also be illusionary. Are the "free" games on offer actually worth having? If you are not careful you could end up spending more than you intended on games you will never play so check them out first.

2. Make sure all the essentials are includedDo not, game review, assume everything you need to get your console working will come in the box. Extras you may need to purchase separately may include additional handsets for multiplayer games; subscriptions for online gaming; and special cables which will boost the audio and visual performance of your unit. 3. Compare PricesRetail competition in, game review, this market is fierce, so shop around for the best prices. Game (and to a lesser extend) console prices vary wildly from place to place, so doing research in advance and checking prices on-line makes sense.

Unless you really need to buy the latest blockbuster on day of its release, wait a month or two - all games are reissued on budget labels and console prices also fall, game review, over time.4. Duck and DiveStaff at specialist computer games stores are much more likely to have expert knowledge than their equivalents at supermarkets and the like. But if the supermarket is cheaper, don't be afraid to take advice from one place and buy in another. Also, consider asking the specialist store for a discount if you know the product is available for less elsewhere.

5. Read Expert ReviewsDon't know your Halos from your Half-Lifes? Websites such as ProductSifter (dot), game review, com, Gamerankings (dot) com and Metacritic (dot) com all have excellent reviews and rankings for a wide range of video console and game products.6. Test before you buy Many games shops have in-store demo units, so you can take a game or a console for a test run before you buy. Remember, you can also rent video games or use online clubs like Swapgame (dot) com to cut costs further, game review, .

KaGlom

KaGlom is such a great game that it's only a matter of time until it has a cult following.

The game is similar to Tetris and Bejeweled but it follows a slightly more action packed format. Blocks are destroyed, game review, with a sound that could easily be described as "KAGLOM!"

IQ

Overall, I.Q. is a cut above the rest - at least in the puzzle/ intelligence, game review, challenge department. It's challenging enough to rope in the serious puzzle gamer while still containing enough frantic action to entertain the casual fan. I.Q. is a straight port of the original, so no dice on any extra game modes.

If you're looking for a quality game to, game, game review, review, play on the move, you will often find that Glu do it best, especially with their proprietary brands - things like Fatal Force, Zuma and the like. Not surprising, then, that the trend is expanding into the brave new world of mobile 3D gaming, which is currently underrepresented, game review, by most developers.

Glu, however,, game review, have managed to deliver a near Game Boy Advance experience with Alpha Wing 2.

Jewel Quest

Jewel Quest deviates slightly from the standard, game review, Tetris format. The goal in Jewel Quest is to turn all the squares red rather than eliminate them. This may seem like a small difference, game review, but it fundamentally changes the gameplay. The variation adds a more strategic aspect to this simple puzzle game by making where you make your connection more important then simply, game review, just making connections.

Block Breaker Deluxe

Block Breaker Deluxe is basically Pong on drugs. Your goal is to use the ball - along with an explosive array of weapons and power-ups - to destroy many, many blocks. I'm sure we all know this style of game, but what separates Block Breaker Deluxe from its cheaper cousins is the attention to detail and general mayhem Gameloft is willing to pump into this futuristic, game review, throw back. In an industry polluted with big budget movie tie-ins and overly complex controls, it's refreshing to see such a simple, yet well done game

The Whackness

There are a lot of terrible games available for download, game review, . In fact, the majority of mobile games aren't worth your time/money, game review, . This is a list of some of those games.

War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds is a 2D side-scrolling shooter, with a very clean and distinct visual style. The game tries to create some variety with the use of different types of attacks; you can shoot 'em down, use your 'everything-dies' super attack, or my personal favorite: the grab and toss.

Although having these multiple attacks does add variety, it crams your fingers all in one small area that makes for a horribly awkward game.

King Kong

You're, game review, basically, game review, a giant monkey running through the jungle,, game review, busting dino skulls with your ape-rage. Like the film, King Kong is visually impressive, but in both cases the content just isn't up to par. I may get some flack about putting this game in the whackness column when there seems to be so many deserving contestants, but I, game review, stand by my convictions.

Nothing is worse than knowing a project had a huge budget and great production team only to turn out a mediocre product.

D12 Fighting

This is usually where I tell you a little bit about, game review, how to play the game and what it offers, and I wish I could. I honestly would if I could, but I haven't got the slightest clue how to play the thing. I tried reading the instructions and it became apparent that I was going nowhere without a Rosetta stone, so I pressed play hoping I could pick it up as I went along.

I pressed each button individually. I pressed them in patterns. And, game review, eventually I was just givin' 'er on the keypad, game review, like I was Data of the Star Trek, game review, Enterprise. All in all probably the worst game I've ever played.

24

The game goes like this: read for an hour, play a minigame and repeat. Some of the minigames are alright, but for the most part I'd rather stick a flaming chopstick in my eyes.

One of the minigames involves maneuvering Bauer though, game review, what looks like a bird's eye view of a bad acid trip. If you get spotted by one of the guards, your options are to dodge or shoot what looks like a corn kernel. Another minigame involves driving from point A to B without hitting the cars around you. This minigame is so easy that I play it while actually driving. This is a terrible game for a great show.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Prince of Persia's frustrating gameplay and whack 'plot' create a pretty disparate view of ancient Persia.

The game contains lots of beautiful women in the game which the prince decides to constantly avoid for no apparent reason. Also, the game is incredibly, game review, difficult; almost too difficult. I played this game for about an hour before I decided to throw my cellular phone into the garbage.

That is why I have to end the article here.

Rent Video Games? Online Rentals vs Storefront Rentals

Storefront rentals had been to be the only dominating market, game review, for 12+ years now when you wanted to rent video games, ever since, game review, the conception of the VCR. Many businesses have taken their company online due to the fact that startup costs are remarkably lower compared to, game review, storefront costs and they can virtually expand their business to an entire nation or worldwide within a few short months. Why not expand the same concept for movies and game rentals? It was only a matter of time.

Depending on where you live and the geographics of that area, I can definately say that this will cause a great influence on where you choose to rent video games. Many rental companies can be found within a few miles of your home, but others are found at distances that you may not want to particularly travel everytime you need to return a game.

Fast and reliable service is a huge factor for most people living in the information age. Everything, game review, has to be now and, game review, fast these days.

So lets look at a few factors that will help you make your decision a little easier. Convienance, games, game review, in stock, game formats, availability , pricing, and customer service are, game review, the general factors we take into consideration for any movie or game rental company. Lets look at each one:

CONVIENANCE- If you live in a rural location, then, online game rentals is without a doubt your best bet. To travel anymore than 8 miles out of your way to rent, game review, anything is more than most people have time for.

Being able to recieve your rentals at your doorstep, in the, game review, country, is a huge benefit to online game rentals.

If you live, game review, in more a a urban or suburban neighborhood, then locations of your nearest branch will determine this for you, but you can never truly beat games delivered to your front door everyday, even if you have one mile to travel. Being able to pickup your game in your pajamas or bath robe without getting dressed to go to your local store is laziness and convienance at its best.

WINNER: ONLINE RENTALS!

GAMES IN STOCK - This can vary from store to store, but for the most part they are all about the same. Most larger stores (Hollywood Video and Blockbuster) can carry a stock of 50-100 games at a time. This number doesnt even come close to the stock of games that, game review, are carried by online rental clubs. We are looking at 2000, game review, games at the very lowest on up to 3500 + games at the high end of the table. You are also more likely to find more older and newer games available to rent at anytime.

WINNER: ONLINE RENTALS!

AVAILABILITY-, game review, I've never really felt like i've had too much, game review, of a choice when it comes to renting at stores. It was more of a deduction of what was left to choose, game review, from at the time you made it there. When it comes to online rentals, you can practically play any game that you ever wanted to play at anytime. There, of coarse are a few games from time to time that you may have a short wait attached, but during those times, you will easily be able to choose another game from the thousands listed.

Once that particular sought after game is available, you will know about it whenever you log into, game review, your account, instantly. WINNER: ONLINE RENTALS!

GAMES FORMATS- Even though I have always thought that having PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games available was quite a selection at the local rental stores, I didnt even know how good it could get until online rentals introduced their selection. Not only does online rentals contain the, game review, 3 major consoles, but they also have such portable game rentals as Gameboy Advance, PSP, and Nintendo DS.

Many of the larger online stores are offering XBOX 360 and PS3 games as well for the next generation as soon as the consoles come out. WINNER: ONLINE, game review, RENTALS!

PRICING- Renting games has always been somewhat cheap ($5-$8), but it can definately add up depending on your rental frequency. If you are renting more than 5-6 a month, on top of late fees, which is bound to happen from time to time, then you may be out-of-pocket sooner than expected. Online rentals make it easy for you. Rent X amount of games and keep them as long as you want for only X amount.

Game prices fluctuate from game plan to plan, but these prices are still far more lower, game review, than you'll ever find at your local store. Check out the pricing here. WINNER: ONLINE RENTALS!

CUSTOMER SERVICE- Waiting, game review, in lines and dealing with crowds and irritable employees to rent video games is enough to drive anyone mad. This in itself can make you not want to deal with your local rental store at any cost, game review, . On the other hand, online rentals do not have lines, crowded stores, or irritable employees to deal with, so, game review, that experience is elminated altogether! Just select a movie from your browser and wait 1-3 business days for delivery and thats it.

If you, game review, ever, game review, have troubles or problems with recieving or returning games, email customer service and your inquiry will be returned within 24 hours. Some of these online rental companies even have phone support! WINNER: ONLINE RENTALS!

Girl Gaming Revolution

It seems like guys are always shocked whenever I beat them in a video game. When my husband's friends, game review, come over and I ask them if they want to play, game review,, game review, Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 they are always surprised. It gets even worse once I beat them. It seem like we need a girl gaming revolution because guys always consider girls who, game review, game as some kind of freaks.

We need to start with the family games like Rock Band, game review, or Viva, game review, Piñata.

Getting the concept of how to use the controller and how to get your coordination, game review, perfected. Plus, you aren't judged nearly as much when you are playing these games in single player mode or multiplayer with your friends. It seems like as soon as you start playing games online you are expected to be an amazing gamer.

There are quite a few games that are exclusively single player which are a great place to start learning how to play. When you are playing by yourself for, game review, the first time, generally most games have tutorials that you can go through to help you learn how to play the game.

Especially strategy type games such as Warcraft 3 or Age of Empires can be especially fantastic for learning, game review, how to play for the first time.

Some of the first person shooters and other genres drop you right into the game. In these games you might try playing single player mode on the easiest difficulty. Most game designers understand that people who may not have the most coordination in the world will be playing their game. The easy mode in generally can make your life a whole lot easier.

Another tip is that you need to make sure that you take advice when offered. Typically guys are much more apt to help a girl who doesn't understand the concepts. However, you are going to get hugely harassed, game review, when you try to play online so DO NOT ask for help when playing multiplayer online. In addition, you'll realize how much of pigs these little kids and teenagers are so make sure if you have the option to play a male character, game review,, game review, that you do. I know its horrible that you have to do this, but it truly is the only way to avoid, game review, getting harassed.

In addition, a lot of times games that are especially gory just aren't fun. Instead of playing Gears of War 2, you might want to try some, game review, of the games that are rated T for Teen instead of those M for Mature games. A lot of times these games are just as fun, but you avoid the gruesome details that are just disgusting. Unless you are up for zombie movies or something, you might want to avoid games of this caliber.

Understand that you might not be good at a game when you first start playing.

If a game is highly reviewed, just keep playing. A lot of these games can be very unfriendly to new players, but can be absolutely amazing, game review, once you understand how to play. Even certain games have a slow introduction to build up the characters.

If a game seems excessively easy at the beginning,, game review, make sure you don't give up as well. Sometimes games are specifically easy at the beginning to help you learn the controls but get much more difficult later.

Never just buy a game straight off the shelf.

Go to a review website like gamespot.com prior to buying a game. It seems like this is one of the biggest mistakes that new players make. When you go to the store, don't buy the game because the cover looks like a type of game that you would like to play. Make sure that it isn't rated like a 43/100 before you spend the $50 on the game.

You should also try to pick games within a genre that you like to play. If you play a game and you really don't like it, make sure you remember, game review, what genre that type of game is so you don't buy a game like that again.

For instance, in my opinion sports games are horrible. I always make sure to avoid this genre. However, I really enjoy playing strategy games where you, game review, move around and army and try to attack the other player. Sometimes playing RPGs can be fun as well where you build up, game review, a character to fight monsters and go on quests. However, you need to find your niche where you like to play.

If you haven't played many, game review, video games, I suggest trying a couple used games in different genres, game review, or start renting games.

There are some great online services that are similar to Netflix except for the fact that you rent games. Just keep in mind that you want, game review, to rent the high quality games.

Again, just make sure you keep with it. We definitely need more girl gamers out there. I'm tired of being the only one out of, game review, my female friends that play video games. All I, game review,, game review, want to do is talk, game review, about how great my character is on World of Warcraft and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Trust me, this is a fantastic way to spend your time. You'll absolutely love getting into the gaming world once you try a few high quality games. If you have friends that play, ask them prior to getting a game. I look forward to the day when we can start an all female guild or an all female gaming group. One final piece of advice: Let's start a gaming revolution.

One of the backbones of the gaming world is of course Game Programmers, it is a delicate job and not anyone can just jump into the bandwagon, although game programmers are always in demand it takes a top programmer to keep up with the advancing technology and player̢۪s, game review, preference. So rest assured that all the opportunities it brings give us a choice to be in the know and be able to jump into the bandwagon at any given time.

Enigma: Rising Tide Review

SINGLE PLAYER REVIEW

Enigma, game review, lives! Tesseraction has, game review, released a single player offline version of their upcoming massively multiplayer naval game and it lives up to its potential and then some. Playing Enigma offline gives you a chance to see what this game is all about and, game review, train for the upcoming Virtual Battle of the Atlantic (and Pacific, since the Japanese/British are part of this).

Enigma is set in an "alternate history", "one that begins in 1936 but in a world as it might have been had Germany won World War I".

The Germans drove the British Empire from Europe and into alliance with the budding Japanese Empire. Together, the Nippo-Anglo faction faces off against the German monarchy and an, game review, expansionist United States joins the war to make a unique three-sided conflict. No Pearl Harbor, no Hitler, no Nazis, no Soviet Union. With each mission you are kept current with newspaper headlines and briefings from HQ.

There are over 35 single training missions and six separate campaigns in which you play as a destroyer, corvette, PT boat, or a submarine, for, game review, a total of over 90 missions with two difficulty levels, easy or difficult.

The campaign structure is scripted and to progress you must complete each mission and live, game review, to tell. Each mission is an instant encounter at sea. There is no Aces-style hunting or tracking. The mission starts just after your lookouts make contact and the action is about to begin. The single player version does not have time compression, nor an in-game save feature. When you start, game review, a mission, you have to finish it. Getting pinned by escorts and waiting them out can take hours--real life hours.

Like any good captain there, game review, were occasions where I was forced to take her deep, cut the engines, and trust my luck while I was away from the room.

Enigma makes no pretensions about being a full-blown simulation and it isn't. Be that, game review, as it may, the level of combat and the essential elements needed for an authentic naval game are there. Enigma is no arcade game by a long shot. Enigma allows first-person control of guns but all other stations are integrated, game review, in a command-style interface, game review, .

Firing torpedoes is done by casual aiming, there's no TDC to operate. While I personally would be more satisfied with some kind of tangible input into target-motion analysis, game review, other than just "eyeballing" it, with all the pace and lethality of Enigma battles,, game review,, game review, it's sufficient. No player-controlled method of damage control is present, nor can you send radio messages. Aside from this and the lack of TDC, Enigma gives the, game review, simulation, game review, player most of what he could wish for in a naval game.

Enigma has AI that makes you say, "Ouch!"--enemy ships can put the hurt on you. Poke your periscope up in the middle of an armed convoy and you are plastered with tracer fire so dense, you can feel the hate and desperation of the crews aboard the merchants. Destroyers behave aggressively, game review, with tenacious, if somewhat predictable, tactics. The ships and planes are based on historical models with some modifications. Subs carry a realistic loadout of around 22-26 torpedoes. They reload much quicker than real WWII subs could, usually in a couple minutes.

However, being that this is an alternate history, that can be explained by hydraulics that were, game review, actually employed on the German Type XXI U-boats that were developed at the end of, game review, the war (the real war). Destroyers, corvettes,, game review, and PT Boats (motor torpedo boats) have varying kinds of armaments-depth charges, torpedoes, hedgehogs, and guns.

All ships contain a small radar/sonar screen that gives you updates on surrounding vessels. When you play as a submarine, the screen can be interpreted as the sonar map usually found on subsims like Silent Hunter and Aces of the Deep.

I was pleased to note that the indicated positions while submerged are not precise and the closer the range, the better the, game review, contacts. Tesseraction did a good job on finding the middle ground between giving the player information and withholding information he should not have depending on the tactical situation. Combined with the alarm bell that rings every time your sonar guy detects an incoming torpedo, you are equipped, game review, with fair and accommodating sensors.

Enigma has an easy mouse/keyboard interface to learn and it has the best voice, game review, control I've ever experienced in a subsim (in the same league as Sub Command).

With no special mike set-up I was able to change speed, headings, depth, fire weapons, and more just by muttering into a mike. It allows you to keep one hand on the mouse, one on the keyboard, and simultaneously issue helm and, game review, weapons orders.

Graphics are a strong point for Enigma--especially the ocean wave effect. It is as close to looking out a porthole in a real ship as anything I have ever beheld. The ocean surface has very good textures, motion, and definition. The waves have sharp, white crests that are several notches above Silent Hunter II.

Your sub or ship is a constantly, game review, moving platform on the surface and adds to the challenge of hitting targets with the guns or holding your binocs steady. The ocean battlefield varies from calm seas, to heavy seas, to flat-out gales with rain and blustering wind, game review, sounds. Just incredible.

Ships and subs are rendered with, game review, great detail. Not only are lifeboats, guns, portholes, screws, and antennas illustrated with inspired detail, but the decks, windscreens, and surfaces have a weathered look that straight away adds to the sense of watching a real ship in a real ocean.

Hard-charging escorts part the seas with a frothy bow wave and subs leave foam on the surface when they dive (although the foam lingers too long, as if it is designed as a targeting key). Along with the voice control, Enigma graphics earns high praise.

An ample sound suite accompanies, game review, the good graphics. I enjoyed the whistling of falling bombs, changes in engine sound linked with vessel speed, ocean sounds, interior sub sounds, especially the sonar pings, and ricochet sounds. When your sub is damaged by depth, game review, charge attack, you can hear breaking glass and light bulbs and threatening water leaks.

Sounds are directional, too, a plus. I noticed enemy screw sounds when in a underwater submarine were missing. Some of the best sound effects include the death scene, when your boat is fatally wounded. Water rushing in, rivets popping, and hull creaks accompanied by the slowly dimming lights... the effect is appropriately stark and eerie. Finally, you're treated to, game review, a musical score with different anthems for each faction.

This wouldn't be an adequate review without noting the physics of, game review, the Enigma.

It's easy to see that Tesseraction, game review, put a lot of effort into making the ships interact with the ocean in a convincing fashion, and they succeeded. Ships appear to be engaged in a constant dance with the ocean surface. Smaller boats such as the PT boats require a constant hand on the helm--they are pitched about by heavy seas. I also noted that when you are using the binoculars and en enemy ship hits you with a round, your view is drastically jolted, requiring time to readjust your sighting.

Same for the sub cabin under depth charge attack. The display is visibly shaken after near misses. That's realism, simulation or not.

One thing Enigma has going for it in spades is ambience. The graphics are so good and the action is so compelling you, game review, will not mind repeating the same missions over and over. Some scenes caused me to marvel--watching my sub advance on a squadron of distant escorts and seeing the flash of their muzzles followed an instant later by a streaking, smoke-trailing, death-tipped shell and an audible whi-zzz! The color, game review, and moodiness, game review, of the stormy skies and towering waves touches the seadog in you.

When the action, game review, really gets going with circling destroyers, skulking subs, merchants burning--planes, game review, dive bombing! torpedo bells ringing! shells splashing!--Enigma, game review, rules the, game review, ocean. While it is an action game, in some ways Enigma is more simulation than Silent Hunter II. When you are in the control room, you really are in a control room. Executing a crash dive makes the room tilt noticeably. Tesseraction knows how to suspend your imagination.

With the development emphasis on the eventual multiplayer action, there is no random mission generator, scenario editor, or dynamic campaign. Offsetting this is the implied assurance that since Tesseraction will be releasing upgrades on a three month cycle, that could include new mission packs. And when they get the online version completed (Dec 2003, we hear and hope), most players will be facing off on the Internet.

It's funny but, game review, much of what separates Enigma, game review, , game review, from Fleet Command is the first-person view from the bridge; and Enigma is distinguished from Fighting Steel by a vastly superior representation of the ocean.

Yet, a host of other details and engineering touches make Enigma superior to most naval games that have come before it, game review, . The AI is better, the pacing is geared for action, the voice control works, and the environment is thoroughly engaging. Enigma promises fun and action in a superior ocean landscape and the single player version delivers, game review, completely. If Tesseraction is able to forge ahead and bring new versions and enhancements to Enigma as promised, including the massive multiplayer component, Enigma will have a lock on the naval game community.

If you like naval games in general, you'll like Enigma. If you love good naval games, you'll love Enigma. This is truly a good naval game.

Why We Play Games, Part 2

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Last week we started to get into the motivation of the gamer. We discussed challenge and its ugly stepsister competition, two of the most common motivators. Today, we look at two more on the way to forming an overall model for what moves us.

Perhaps less common than the first two motivators, creativity is nonetheless an important driving force in the gamer psyche. Though at first gaming doesn't seem like a particularly creative act, what with its formalized rules and structured systems, there is much more room for self expression than one might think. Some games play to this directly through unique presentations or artistic themes. Music games and many of the Sim titles are basically just expressive outlets that happen to be governed by a computerized system of rules. Other creatives find their outlet in multiplayer gaming. The modern MMORPG sports equipment and decorative combinations numbering well into the millions. The Creatively Motivated gamer takes pleasure in designing how their character looks as well as changing how they interact with their environment. Creatively Motivated gamers thrive when outlets are available. Anything involving a high degree of expression, decoration, or a large abstract component draws them. They wilt in gaming environments governed purely by numbers, and in those where presentation is extremely homogeneous.

Though we sometimes don't like to admit it, escapism is a motivation that lives in the heart of every gamer. By design, a game creates an inherently different world. Even games which have as one of their primary goals simulation of some aspect of the real world recast the player into some role they find more exciting than their own. Escaping into the role of adventurer, pilot, quarterback or even zookeeper provides motivation for nearly every gamer. Escapism Motivated gamers seek out games where the environment is rich, comprehensive, real. They thrive in worlds where suspension of disbelief is high, where they can lose themselves in the depth and complexity available to them. They gravitate toward role playing and simulation, environments where the world is rich and believable. They tend to avoid abstract games where the underlying reality is difficult to believe or understand. It is a strange sort of paradox that MMORPGS, with their incredibly deep histories and expansive worlds, are not as attractive to Escapism Motivated gamers as pure RPGs. This effect arises from the multiplayer aspect. Players talking in a public channel about out of game topics or, worse, about the mechanical and numerical aspects of the game world may well ruin the escapists experience and cause them to seek the company of non player characters or others who share their motivation.

Much has been made of the downside of escapism. A gamer who spends too much time in a world not their own can begin to lose touch. This sort of disassociation with reality can, and has, lead to all sorts of problems with work, school and personal relations. This does not mean, however, that escapism is itself an unhealthy thing. It is a basic part of the human experience. The reason we vacation, watch moves, enjoy sporting events or go camping is inherently escapist. As people, we are often unsatisfied with out lot in life. It's natural to seek out activities that allow us to experience something outside of our day to day. Gaming is no different. However, as gamers, we are an oft misunderstood community. We owe it to ourselves and to the world at large both to fight with information, by spreading the positive realities of gaming and gamer culture, and to fight internally against obsession. No matter how good a substitute for the real world a game may seem it is, in the end, only a pastime. Leave it once in a while.

Next week, we conclude with Social Interaction. Then, we'll move on to some sort of unified theory about all this.

Toss the Turtle Game Review

Online flash games love brutality to, game review, random animals; this may seem a bit harsh, but as long as nothing like this happens in the real world, then it is something I can live with! As you may have guessed from the title, it is time for the turtle to be battered and bruised in an online distance game.

This is a distance game, but it is not just another distance game, this is because it offers a lot of distinctive features that other games of this genre have not added. Let's take a look to see why this game differs with others.

Your goal is to aim your cannon, game review, with your mouse and fire your turtle into the air, just get the, game review, right amount of distance and let go at the right time, and then use the [w] [a] [s] [d] controls to guide your turtle along as far as possible, game review, .

Depending on, game review, a variety of factors you are given money to spend on items. However, unlike other games these maps conjure up an array of obstacles, this is where the excitement comes in, as the most powerful shot can go an unusually short distance and your mistimed shot can go for miles and miles.

To, game review, start, you have your essential items, including a cannon and a slingshot. The slingshot can be used up to three times to keep your turtle up in the air; this should be used primarily, game review, to avoid obstacles on the ground.

It is not always clear which items you should look to hit or avoid, so here is a small breakdown:

Money, game review, bags: Distributed at random points and one item you want to hit, as they give you money.

Bombs: If you hit a bomb at speed it will boost you a mile, however, if you hit the bomb at a slow speed it usually just throws you back up into the air.

Man with chainsaw: There are not many occasions when you want to meet a man with a chainsaw but this is one of them. This is one of the better obstacles to hit.

Like other games you should, game review, use your money effectively to buy the right items, these items propel you farther along the map (if you use them correctly.) You can buy from a selection of jet packs, rockets, cannons, nuclear bombs and even a tank.

You can also choose to purchase a range of guns which act as a replacement to your original slingshot; this is another way, game review, to keep yourself airborne.

It has, game review, got to the point where you, game review, have every item you can buy, and you have gotten yourself as far as you think you are going to go, so is this game over? Well, not really, there are also 40 medals up for, game review, grabs; you should use these as a scale to see how well you are progressing.

Nintendo Wii Review - Nintendo Wii Video Games Console

The Nintendo Wii has been abundantly absorbed back release. Almost two years later, it's still, game review, appealing difficult to get the console, and there is still fizz all about about it, whether it be absolute or negative.

This animate started out with huge sales that it still holds today to a bottom extent, and the advertising about the animate fabricated the admission to the absolution abundant (and fabricated the time afterwards absolution if you couldn't get a authority of one even worse), and there's still agitation as to whether it's absolutely lived up to all of this hype.

In this animate review, I'll draft down on both abandon and accord you the austere beat on what this animate is all about, and I'm assured that by, game review, the end of it you will accept a solid assessment on the Nintendo Wii.

Back if it was alleged the Revolution, the Wii was just alpha to body up hype. Rumours were spread, admirers were anxious, and developers were curious. As time went on and we got added photographs of a, game, game review, review, added final animate and peripherals, we all sat by in awe apprehension the absolution of the One Animate to Rule Them All.

Not alone, game review, was the animate aesthetically beautiful, but the peripherals were revolutionary, and the console, in size, was abundantly bunched (small abundant, game review, to fit into some ample pockets for simple transportation). All of these abundantly helped addition the animate in hype, and by the time the animate was assuredly appear there were, game review, Nintendo fanboys and video bold strangers all lined up to get a adventitious to try out this new anatomy of intuitive, alternate, game review, gaming.

A lot of them were afterwards aghast (by "subsequently," I don't beggarly appropriate after... Took a while) by the abridgement of acceptable third affair support, game review, . It was just alarming how Nintendo appear animate afterwards animate afterwards a acceptable bulk of developers lined up and accessible to actualize amateur for it. Of course, we saw so abounding titles... Mario, Zelda, and Metriod, to name a few. Sound familiar? All Nintendo.

Don't get me amiss - They're all abundant games.

But, the abridgement of array not alone brings the assured abridgement of a advanced brand of games, but it aswell fabricated the animate assume appealing abortive afterwards a while, game review, . I mean, Wii Sports was a abundant bold to absolution forth with the console, but afterwards, game review, 2 weeks or so of abscessed arms, torn lamps, and array usage... It just tends to get old.

As the animate grew, as did it's functionality, game review, . We got the news, the map, the weather, even the internet.

And let's not overlook the voting channel. It captivated its own in the, game review, "game consoles do things added than gaming" department... Until the consumers accomplished that DVD affinity was nonexistent. We could do so abounding things with our contemporary gaming console, except for watch movies. It was a ample anticlimax, game review, - an all-around disappointment. But, we couldn't overlook the blessings that we accustomed - Backwards-compatibility with Gamecube, game review, games, WiiWare giving us downloadable old-school games, and SD agenda abutment to save amateur and appearance pictures.

But - Wait. None of this is, game review, new! Downloadable, game review, content? Not too revolutionary. Backwards-compatibility has been out anytime back animate sequels began, and an SD agenda to save amateur is just like a anamnesis agenda or harder drive - Except that with the added consoles,, game review, their anamnesis is added versatile.

The Nintendo Wii was aswell defective in one major, above breadth that absolutely gave a low- draft to hardcore gamers - Appropriate graphics. The Wii has cartoon adequately evocative to the last-gen Playstation 2, and that's just unacceptable in today's apple of HD-Everything.

One bold looks amazing on the added consoles and PC, and yet avalanche abbreviate of par on the, game review, Nintendo Wii.

That's not to say that it's butterfingers of appropriate cartoon - Super Smash Brothers Brawl was aesthetically pleasing. But they had to put that on a dual-layer disc to fit all the data, and abounding of them (like my own) didn't plan because of dust accession on the Wii's disc laser, so you had to forward in your Nintendo Wii for repair. It's accomplishable,, game review, but at what cost?

One affair that it does accept is a congenital, game review, wireless adapter.

While the Sony Playstation 3 does accept this, the Xbox 360, sadly, does not, and it is a actual nice accessibility (especially with such a tiny animate ? It's nice to not accept to lug annihilation added around). Again, not revolutionary, but a positive.

One affair I cannot get over is the congenital storage... They accumulation, game review, us with 512MB of anamnesis and apprehend us to be able to buy all their amateur from WiiWare? We charge, game review, to absorb even added money to get an SD agenda to authority all of that stuff, and it's just tedious.

It would be nice afterwards the added accomplishment is all I'm saying... I mean, that bulk of accumulator amplitude is abundantly, game review, miniscule in today's accretion world, and I just acquisition it horrendous.

All these abhorrent things aside, it does accept actual automatic gameplay. It absolutely immerses you into the game, and makes you a allotment of it. Of course, it would be MORE immersive with bigger graphics, but what can you do?

The bulk of absent abeyant on this animate astounds me.

They could accept done so abundant here,, game review, abnormally with appropriate third affair support, but they didn't. I feel that a activity like this would accept been bigger larboard in the easily of Sony or Microsoft.

VERDICT:

The Nintendo Wii is abundant for families and parties, but it avalanche (incredibly) abbreviate for the hardcore gamer. It tucks its appendage amid its legs at the aboriginal afterimage of a appropriate first-person, game review, shooter, and the online play is.

.. Well, there's not abundant to allocution about. It's just like, game review, arena online with the DS... No chat, laggy, and not too abundant of a best, game review, of amateur to play. Keep in mind, it IS free, so it's not abundant, game review, of a amends if you were planning on arena online just occasionally, but absolutely not fit for the, game review, hardcore, every-day online gamer who wants to body a accompany account and babble with buds. Basically, the animate is good; not great.

I'd delay for a affecting amount reduction.

The Game Audio Explosion - A Guide to Great Game Sound Part II: Music, FMVs and Audio Planning

V. MUSIC, game review, PRODUCTION

A. THE UNDERSCORE - INTERACTIVE, game review, VS. FILM MUSIC

Until recently, you simply could not compare game music to film, game review, music. Every
aspect involved in their production, from budgets to performance, made it an
impractical comparison. Today, these two media have a working relationship.
Games are created to support movies and movies are made, game review, from successful, game review,
game franchises. Film composers are now writing for games, and some game
composers have made the transition to film.

Hollywood orchestras and
orchestrators are now commonly used for game music scores. Why make this
comparison?, game review, Because even though the considerations, game review, involved in their creation
are different, their effect and function are relatively the same.

B. STORY-DRIVEN/ROLEPLAYING GAMES

As the name suggests, the scores, game review, to story-driven games must primarily tell a
story. To tell a story musically is a sublime art. A composer, game review, must be, game review, well
versed in the work of his predecessors in order to understand what constitutes
successful story telling using the language, game review, of music.

Fortunately, centuries of
music have been written for this purpose, allowing today's composer a
foundation for developing this art. We now associate certain sonorities and
rhythms with specific actions, emotions or locations, game review, . Compositions like
Rossini's 'William Tell', Wagner's 'Tristan' and Holst's 'Planets' have laid the
groundwork for these non-verbal associations. Film and television composers
have since, game review, expanded on these motifs to help express the elements within a
story.

A portion of story telling is to define the environment, both time and place, game review, .
Musically, we draw influence from folk traditions for such a purpose. Through
ethnomusicology we can effectively represent locations and time periods by
incorporating traditional instruments, modes and progressions, game review, into the score, game review, .
For instance, a tabla, tambour or sitar is appropriate for describing an Indian
location. If such instruments are not available,, game review, the music may be orchestrated
in such a way as to mimic, game review, these traditional sounds.

A modern orchestra is
greatly enhanced by the addition of folk elements for the purpose of describing
a specific time and place.

Characters within a story are supported through the development of melodic
themes and motifs associated with each character. Orchestrating, game review, the motifs
throughout various instruments will provide a sense of character development
as the game progresses. In addition, varying the harmonic support of these
themes will reflect the character's physical, mental and emotional states.

Game music for the story and role genre must highlight the dramatic events in
the story as well as drive the game-play. NIS and FMVs are the primary tools
for, game review, advancing, game review, the storyline and scoring to these videos is generally a
straightforward process. You must consider, however, that game-play is also a
dramatic event that contributes to the overall development of the story. Herein
lies the careful balancing act of supporting the story as well as the action,
without the music sounding repetitious.

Cross fading alternate versions, game review, and
transitions, or layering individual tracks that are programmatically, game review, muted and
un-muted, will secure the musical effectiveness over long periods. The
programming methods of manipulating music within a game are beyond the
intent of this article. Further reading from game development resources such
as 'gamasutra.com' will provide a closer look at some of the programming
methods used in game music playback.

B. ACTION/ARCADE AND SPORTS GAMES

The most basic function of game music is best exhibited in 'arcade' style
games in which the overall gaming experience is enhanced by the addition of
adrenaline-surging music.

The music helps to drive the action, thereby
heightening the intensity of the experience. For this reason, it's very common
for these games to license tracks from well-known, marketable artists with a, game review,
track record of producing music that translates to the listener. The interactive
potential of this music, has thus far been very low. However, as many artists
are also avid gamers, they are beginning to show interest in lending their talent
toward interactive soundtrack design, if, game review, not producing tracks in their entirety.

Generally speaking, the interactivity of the music in arcade-style games rarely
moves beyond loops and stings. In many cases, this is all that is required.
However,, game review, as the complexity of arcade-style games grow, so must the level of
musical interactivity. The music for these games should support any changes in
game-play. Power-ups,, game review, signature moves and multiple damage are all examples
commonly reserved for the sound design to immerse the player in the action,
but are appropriately expressed through music as well.

A deep understanding
of the game-play will reveal to the composer, new areas to interactively
enhance, game review, an otherwise monotonous arcade soundtrack.

VI. FULL MOTION VIDEO (FMV)

Since, game review, the FMV is a controlled environment, it is tempting, game review, for the sound
designer to elaborate on the sound effects. While in some cases, it may be
appropriate to heighten the dramatic impact of the story; great care should be
maintained to be consistent with the in-game sound design.

An incredible-
, game review, sounding FMV is surely a joy to behold, however, if the in-game sounds do not
hold up to the FMVs, the playing experience will be diminished. The purpose of
the FMV is to dramatically move the storyline, and to provide a break in the
action. Since Most FMVs occur after completing a level, there is an inherent
sense of reward when viewing the FMV. The sound design should pay, game review, respect
to this as long as it doesn't stray too far from the in-game sound.

The FMV
should act as a seamless transition into and out of the game play. In my
opinion, it is best to use in-game sounds within the FMV wherever in-game
movements or actions are present.

The second consideration for FMV sound is the mix of all the sound elements.
All dialog, sound effects and music should, game review, be mixed at comparable levels to
the in-game mix, unless there is a dramatic motivation for stressing one over
the other.

VII. SOUND REVIEWS

The Beta date is just around the corner.

Your sound team, game review, has worked, game review, countless
hours, and is nearing the finish line. You might think it's time to examine the
sound for any necessary revisions. Well by this time it's probably too late. As
mentioned earlier, the sound team is generally the last in line to begin creating
their content. Add to this, the fact that all previously missed deadlines
becomes their burden to make-up. Your sound team will likely be delivering
content right up to the last minute.

You will need to have in place a regular
and effective, game review, reviewing mechanism to stay on top of the direction of the game
sound.

Using the, game review, same group of reviewers used for the demo phase (part 1 of article),
create a questionnaire that rates the general aspects of the sound. Rating each
individual sound would be time-consuming, so use categories of sounds and
include room for comments or explanations, game review, . By assembling the various
questionnaires, you will be able to develop a consensus opinion, game review, that will reveal
spots that need further attention.

If this is performed in a timely and periodic
fashion, your sound team will be best able to manage the revisions, as they are
needed.

VIII. GOT YOUR SOUND BUDGET? …USE IT!

A. YOUR SIMPLE CHECKLIST
Today's games are competing with each other on every level. Sound is no
exception. You must secure the best resources possible for your sound team.
This will require that you use your budget wisely, and use all of it.

Prior to beginning the sound effects production, ask yourself the following
questions.

1. Is your sound team complete? (i.e. sound designer(s), supervising/Lead
sound designer, composer, audio director and audio programmer)

2. Is each member of the sound team assigned a specific task uncompromised
by additional or overlapping roles?

3. Is your sound team assigned only to, game review, your project?

4. Does your sound team have enough time to complete your project?

, game review, 5. Does your sound team have the adequate resources necessary for your
specific game? These include sonically treated work spaces, equipment,
software and, game review, sound effects libraries that are compatible with the needs of your game.

6. Does your sound team have a demonstrated track record of producing
sound within the style and genre of your project?

If you answered "yes" to all of these questions, your sound design team is
properly equipped, prepared and ready for production. Answering "no" to any
of these questions will tell you where you will need to focus portions of your
budget.

B. OUTSOURCING

If the sound team is incomplete or in any way compromised, you should
consider outsourcing an appropriate amount of the workload to game audio
specialists.

Look for companies and people that have a strong resume of
interactive sound production, and have successfully produced sound for "high
profile" titles. If your game has special stylistic needs, then consider companies
that have a track record of producing sound for similar titles.

C. FOLEY

The overall 'theme' of your game will help dictate where you may need
additional resources. A historically based game will, game review, require authenticity;
therefore consider obtaining fresh recordings of historically accurate weapons
and vehicles.

If your game focuses on destruction, a sizeable Foley session, game review, may
be appropriate to produce original content unencumbered by overused sound
effects libraries. A small but well organized recording session can give your
game a lot of fresh spark without breaking the budget.

IX. MARKETING YOUR SOUND

Game marketing has typically focused on the creator, developer or the voice
actors within the game. In many cases, sound can be used as a marketing tool
as well. For "The Incredible Hulk - Ultimate destruction" we hired some of
Hollywood's, game review, finest sound recordists to coordinate a Foley session that would
produce the raw destruction, game review, sounds we needed to create the sound effects
necessary for this game, game review, .

Our session took place at an auto-dismantling yard in
a southern California desert. A giant forklift and bulldozer were used to drop,
drag and tear apart cars, vans and trailers. Multiple video cameras captured the
session for future use on the "Behind-the-scenes" reel. The added benefit was
the marketability achieved by everyone's dedication to producing the most
destructive sounding game to date. Your ability to market your game's sound
will also help raise any additional finances needed to bring your sound up to
the next level.
