Assassins Creed 2 - Review

The original Assassins Creed split gamers down the middle, some loved the innovative free-running system and unique story and settings,, game review, whilst others loathed the game due to a lack of variety in it's missions and simplistic control, game review, system. However the creators of Assassins Creed payed attention to these people, looked, game review, at what they loved and at what they hated and learned from them, and thus Assassins Creed 2 was born.

Once again you will be living the life of one of Desmond Mile's ancestors, more precisely Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Unlike Altair from the original game, Ezio is no master assassin to start with and Assassins Creed 2 follows Ezio through a very large portion of his life (spanning roughly 30 years) A tragedy in Ezio's teen years moves him to seek revenge.

Thus over his lifespan Ezio becomes a deadly Assassin, and unlike AC1 where you were already a master assassin it is a welcome change to play as Ezio as he learns these skills through his experience. Ezio is also a much more likable character, game review, than the rather cold Altair (who makes an appearance in AC2 and plays and important part in the story) he's a charming Italian, and is well acted and played.

As you might expect the story deepens in AC2, as subject 16's background, game review, is slowly revealed and new information is learned with some amazing revelations at the end of the game. However, i'll leave this review spoiler free by saying the story is engrossing and keeps, game review, you playing.

Thankfully the modern day part of the game does not interfere to much, unlike the orignal game where you were dragged back into modern day fat to often with nothing to do in those little interludes.

For the few times tat you are brought back to the modern world it's for good reasons and some nice gameplay touch's. Desmond is less of a useless lump and now seems to have toughened up, making for some interesting changes in his character, as the, game review, game progress's Desmon also becomes an assassin thanks to the bleeding effect, which see's him learning the same skills Ezio does. This opens up many interesting possibility's for the next game.

The new economic, game review, system is the biggest and by far best change to the gameplay, players now earn Florins as they complete missions which can be used to buy new armour, weapons, smoke bombs, throwing knives, healing items and poison.

Money can also be invested in your own private, game review, Villa and small town which you gain access to early in the game. You can upgrade the town and villa, which in turn earns you extra money every 20 minutes (real time) Your villa also stores all your weapons, armour, collectibles and more whilst your town has many, game review, shops. It's a fantastic addition to the Creed world.

Ubisoft have also addressed the variety issue in many different ways. Gone are, game review, the investigation missions that plagued the first game, in it's place is a more natural and free flowing missions system which builds up to each major assassination.

It's almost taken it's cue's from GTA's mission structures and it works very well, everything seems, game review, far more natural now and, game review, flows better. They've also added in side, game review, missions, which are entirely optional throughout the game, these include assassination contracts, couriers missions, race's and even beating up unfaithful husbands. which takes me smoothly, game review, to the combat.

While the core mechanics of combat remain the same,, game review, Ezio is by far a superior fighter that Altair ever was, game review, .

Thanks to a massive increase in the range of weapons, you can now fight with mace's and massive two-handed swords and axes now as well, making for some brutal, game review, kill animations. The new Disarm move is fantastic, by fighting unarmed you can now counter and attack and steal your opponents weapon and get an insta kill on him. It's fantastic to watch as you disarm a massive armoured Knight and bring his huge two handed axe swinging down into his shoulder. Combat is improved by new enemy types as well, such as the Brute who is a massive armoured foe, and is, game review, best fought with your dual hidden blades or, game review, using the disarm technique.

Other enemies wield massive pikes or spears and can attack you from a good distance and are best taken out from combo kills, game review, .

Graphics are still amazing, and cut scenes are now present in the game, however the facial animations can sometimes be a little ugly. Attention to detail is still staggering and this is by far the best looking sandbox game yet. Venice and Italy as a whole, game review, look amazing as this game takes you through these beautiful cities, game review, and landscapes.

Animations, game review, are once again a joy to behold,, game review, Ezio moves, climbs and leaps with precision and grace and the combat animations are brutal to behold.

A raft of smaller additions also make there way into Creed 2, such as driving boats, faster climbing and extra equipments, game review, such as smoke bombs, game review, . You can now pick up dead bodies and either hide them or use them as distractions and the new smoke bombs add a nice extra tactic to your arsenal. Poison is introduced as well, you can now prick any person with a small needle to deliver this poison, which drives the victim mad and they will begin attacking people around them.

Use this on something like a Brute and he will most likely do some major damage to his allies as well as cause a great distraction. However the game does not make use of these items well enough, they get introduced but after that the game never forces you to use them, so many people will forget these abilities exist and never use them, as such the game should of had a mission or 2 after each item and skill is introduced where the player could get used to using these items and abilities. The hidden gun is a neat new feature as well, allowing for some nice long range kills, as well as your new Double Hidden, game review, Blades which allow for some satisfying kills.

Collectibles return, but in a much better form. Around the world there 100 feathers to collect,, game review, however you do get rewards this time round. There are alos 20 Glyphs which when found, act as puzzles which slowly unlock a video made by the illusive Subject 16. The new Assassins Tombs are a great addition as well, these indoor area's are parkour playgrounds, designed to challenge you i many ways. Some simply ask you to work out how to get to the tomb, others see you using precision and speed as you race around the area to hit switches in time.

Others provide enemies, game review, as well to test your techniques and often see you trying to chase down a guard through a fantastic chase sequence before, game review, he alerts the other guards. All in all, game review, there are 6 of these tombs, each one gives you a Seal and collecting all six is well worth the effort for the reward your receive.

All said and done Assassins Creed 2 is a fantastic game that solves most of the originals flaws and provides a breathtaking adventure and gripping story that will, game review, keep you hooked in its 15 hours of campaign time.

And after that you can always add another 10-15 hours in side missions and collectibles and just general mucking about.

One of 2009's best releases.

3rd Space Gaming Vest for PC - Camouflage (L/XL)

3rd Space Gaming Vest for PC - Camouflage (L/XL) Review

Hi, I'm Terry's son. I'm 14 years old & my mom asked me to review this vest I received as a birthday presentfrom my older brother who is 16. I kind of think he bought this "for me" just so he could use it 'cuz I have to FIGHT for a turn!! LOL

Where do I begin... This vest is totally AWESOME!! I hooked my brother up in this (Make sure it's nice and snug) and loaded up "Call of Duty 2" and the results were hilarious! Not only did he have an awesome time playing the game, but we also did watching him play the game!! Even now, days later, it's hard to suppress the laughter while typing this!

I highly recommend this for ANYONE serious gamer or not! Toss your anti-depressants and buy this vest! It's guaranteed to bring a smile to EVERYONE'S FACE!! My Dad even game this bad boy a try (And he's 53 years old) and he loved it!

And now for some specs on the vest. First of all, you will probably need a desktop with a high graphics card and at least 4GB of RAM. I tried playing this on my MacBook with 2GB of Ram and "Call of Duty 2" stuck so bad I couldn't even play it! Then I tried it on my new Mac Pro desktop with 8GB of RAM and a Nvidia GT 120 and the game ran perfect even on high resolution! Now 8GB of RAM may be over kill, but that's what I have and this is how it performed.

All in all this purchase was a winner!

Easing Your Girlfriend Into Gaming

Let's face it, if your girlfriend isn't exactly into gaming, then she's not going to be too lenient towards huge, 12 hour grind sessions. She isn't going to understand that bathing and eating can be put on the back burner. She really isn't going to understand how the sun could hurt ones eyes so damn much. That is until you slowly drip that MMO-rphine into her system. Suddenly it all becomes clear. She thinks as if she's in game and wonders why, game review, the, game review, fuck you haven't been leveling your crafts to, game review, make her some gear.

You'll also see a lot more compassion towards your gaming habits. Hell, she might even look cool to your gaming buddies.

This is not an easy task. Some, game review, of you may get as lucky as, game review, I did, and hook a girl who's already dabbled in games. Or, you might even get someone who is freaking 1337 2 the max. Now, let's assume you've got the typical girlfriend. She wants you to leave the house gasp! And, she wants you to do activities that don't require you sitting in front of a screen double gasp! This is a mini guide on getting her to ease her way into gaming.

Don't throw her right into WoW, or whatever your poison is, unless your poison happens to be on the list! Let's take a look at our first step, the gateway drug, if you will.

FACEBOOK APPS

Love them, or hate them, this is one of the greatest ways to get a chick into gaming. All of these games have RPG elements in them, already, game review, . There's the concept of leveling up, rare items, forming parties (finding and adding neighbors), and it all sets off the so called accomplishment trigger in the brain.

You know? The, game, game review, review, one that has us hooked on our favorite game.

These games are definitely easy for her to get into. I'm sure she has a Facebook, already, and it probably already has tons of wall posts from people trying to get her to raise their barns, or what have you. Games like these are casual, but do have, game review, an addictive edge to them. You'll find people that haven't gamed much in the past habitually starting to work on their apps. Little do they know they just might be the next generation of gamers to fill up our servers and run our guilds.

So she has taken the bait...now on to phase two.

PHANTASY STAR ONLINE (GAMECUBE)

PSO is one of those pick up and play games. It's super simple, yet oh-so-addicting. The lure here, game review, is to ask her if she wants, game review, to do something and you can suggest, game review, a two player game. Just tell her you level up like in farmville. Now, I chose this game for a couple of reasons. It's simple; this will get her used to the basic traditional RPG mechanics. She'll have to learn to heal herself, to manage her stats, and to properly gear herself.

This will also expose her to the grind we all know and love. The best, game review,, game, game review, review, part is the co-op mode as a lure. You -could- play online, but there's a chance that she might not be too used to the gaming community, and it could possibly scare her away.

You could also try Phantasy Star Universe. This game isn't as simple as PSO, but it still, game review, isn't a very difficult game. The huge draw for her would probably be the insane customization. Characters can be very unique in this game.

The clothing system in game is usually pretty appealing to a female.

So, you got this far. Pretty good, even if you don't get any further, you could probably squeeze 1000 hours of solid gameplay out of PSO. But,, game review, if she's still interested, let's, game review, continue.

DRAGONICA ONLINE

AWW SO CUTE! Very cute graphics, indeed, but more, game review, of that traditional MMORPG feel, game review, to it. There are instances, and this time you'll have to work with more than just the two of you to get anywhere in game.

The goal, here, is to bribe her with cuteness. I could list a ton more games that have very cutesy graphics to them, but I particularly like, game review, DO, and I plan on reviewing it in the future.

Be careful, though, with some of these freebie anime style games. If you hadn't noticed how sexified the women are, you might need to get your eyes checked. There are games where the world is full of nothing but huge breasted women, game review, who wear cleavage exposing clothing, and, game review, have that perfect hour glass shape.

Heck, she might even be into it, but I'm not even going there.

At this point you basically have her, she is probably open to all suggestions, she is probably craving different games now. You probably ruined her life but, fuck it, you just made a solid gaming buddy. So now that she's come this far, go ahead, do it. You know you want to. Still here, huh? Just freaking go to, game review, the website and get her the free trial. You know what I'm talking, game review, about right?

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

MMO bliss in a box.

Blizzard has a habit of taking a genre, looking into the successful games of its past and mashing them all together to form a great game. I'm not going to go into too many details about, game review, this game, 'cause I want to review it, but it's not going to be for a long time. I've only been severely addicted to two MMOs in my life, and this is one of them. Approach with caution!

Best Xbox Games on 360

Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 Review: The latest installment of the WWE series, it is actually a pretty solid game even if your not a wrestling fan. The controls are easy to learn and gameplay, game review, is fluid. If you are a Create-A-holic like me, there are tons of things to do in this game. Create wrestlers looks, moves, taunts, gear and then create your own grapple finishing move or the new top rope finishing, game review, move creator. Then, create your own entrance for them. Then, create your own storyline! Yes, new also is the Story Creation mode.

If your a WWE fan, and love to be creative, you will want to pick this one up to carry home. If not, the gameplay will probably grow stale, game review, after a while. It's worth atleast a rental.

Left 4 Dead 2 Review: It's Post-Apocalypse. Zombies and mutant creatures run rampant through the streets of Louisiana, game review, . What do you do? Grab three of your buddies and shoot/hack your way to freedom through five good length campaigns, four different game modes, and an A.

I. "Director" that changes the pace(monster spawns, weapons and items, etc..), you will be playing, game review, Left 4 Dead 2 long after the evacuation choppers have left. My favorite game mode is Versus where you can also played as specialized Infected characters and try to off the survivors before they make it to the safe house. A Definite BUY for FPS and zombie fans.

8 Shotguns out of 10

Dragon Age: Origins Review Bioware has been perfecting the art, game review, of the RPG for years and this is the crowning jewel so far.

With combat you can choose to go on the fly and program your other members with in depth controls over their actions, or pause and, game review,, game review, give each member a specific action to perform on a specific target. Also, a lot of moral decisions are placed in front of the player, where a lot of grey area is involved, making have to, game review, look within yourself to decide what you would actually do. A lot of these choices do impact the story as well. This allows for a lot of replayability as well as all of the specialist, game review, classes(each character can have 2).

Since you only have to earn, game review, them once, starting a new game leaves them open from the beginning. You will, game review, want to buy this one, as Dragon Age has a lot of content, as well as added new downloadable content from the Developer.

9 Frost Cones out of 10

Overlord II Review: Let's face it. Sometimes being the bad guy can be fun., game review, Add an army of hilarious gremlin-like minions at your beck and call, and you would have never thought pillaging the countryside could be so fun.

The controls, game review, take a little getting used to, but they are designed well and make controlling the different types, game review, of minions and your overlord not as such a daunting task as it may seem. You can also craft weapons and armor for your overlord, game review, using the souls of your creepy little friends. The minions are the key to all the puzzles in the game as well as unlocking items and areas. You can resurrect your favorite minions, who will equip weapons and armor(sometimes unique) from fallen, game review, enemies.

One annoying factor I found is the map on the game screen has no compass and turns with your overlord. This can make finding your way difficult, especially with the lack of landmarks in the game environment. The game play also can get repetitive after you have conquered your first couple of towns.

PSP 3000 Review

The PSP, game review, has never really been the must have gadget. When it was released several years ago it was a gaming device with extras. But since then the consumer changed and other features become important, game review, .

I know this is a dodgy intro but please allow me to explain., game review, The PSP was a gaming handheld released at a 250 price point when it got released. But then, game review, two years later internet became more mainstream and important. And the core design of the PSP wasn't aimed at internet features.

For example the WLAN switch is a stupid Engineering fault and it shouldn't have been there. The, game review, operating system wasn't really internet friendly, neither was the Wi-Fi adapter, it can't even do G! With the iPod, game review, touch doing games and media, a new feature became more important and again the PSP lacked behind. Consumers wanted to play music and watch videos on their handheld and the PSPs core wasn't designed for that. It's too big and fat to be a multimedia device, game review, .

Admittedly the video quality is great and the music features decent.

So the PSP doesn't do a lot of things right. It isn't the best multi media player, nor is it fantastic on the internet. But then there's the gaming feature. The fantastic thing about the PSP is that you can play blockbuster games on it everywhere. Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, and Little Big Planet just to name a few, game review, . And the experience is amazing. Most games play and look great. It is exactly what you would want from a portable device.

The screen size, game review, is spot on and the controls are comfortable even during the longer gaming sessions. But awkward hardware decisions should again, game review, be noted. The speakers for example aren't very loud. and we didn't like the thousand buttons on the thing. There's a brightness button, but the brightest is not so bright and therefor best for almost every situation. We don't like the volume buttons much and again the WLAN internet switch is just plain useless. I understand that it should support the battery but why not just program the OS to use the built in Wi-Fi during online tasks online, rather than to let the user make the switch.

The design and hardware decisions are questionable in our opinion but other people seem to love it. We don't like, game review, the plastic feel of it or the thousand buttons. It all makes the device feel cheap and makes it look big. In fact it could just barely fit my pocket. But with that said the buttons feel great and the screen, game review, quality -aside from the lack, game review, of brightness- is amazing.

The PSP 3000 ships for about 150, game review, euros so it's pretty cheap.

And it has a good list of blockbuster titles with more incoming so it's a good value. Granted it isn't the best looking portable or most practical device on the market but it is a great gaming device for an affordable price, and nothing more.

Game Review Of Charlie Ii

Cute. That's is, game review, the first word that occurred to me as I sat down to have a stab at Charlie II. Everything about this little platformer, game review, oozes innocent forest charm, harking back to the child-like glory years of the original Sonic the Hedgehog or Mr Nutz (if anyone remembers that one!) - all primary colours, grass, cloudless skylines and log bridges.

Charlie II, game review, is Dutch developer Wiering Software's sequel to popular platforming title Charlie the Duck. The titular hero is an off-yellow, happy looking little bird (complete with occasional heart melting -quack-, game review, as he stands at rest), who must navigate each of a series of levels in order to collect coins, diamonds and a group of letters to spell out his own name.

Charlie must investigate thoroughly each environment in order to pick up a certain percentage of collectables in order to move onto the next area. That's the gist of the gameplay - simple in theory, and not a lot more complicated in practice either.

Make no mistake though - beyond the cutesy appearance and simplistic gameplay lies a fiendishly difficult game. Even by the second level, I was having quite an amount of trouble not accidentally impaling the plucky young mallard on wooden stakes time after time, or simply being dive-bombed by the cunningly programmed crow things that will indirectly home in on Charlie as they fly by.

Injury seems extremely difficult to avoid, but this free and easy loss of health and, ultimately,, game review, lives is offset by the inclusion, game review, of Zelda-esque "extra hearts" littered around that, game review, will extend Charlie's health bar beyond its original three hits to any amount of extra protection. According to the manual, an extra heart is included in, game review, nearly every level of the game - further enforcing the need, game review, for heavy exploration in the adventure, with extra hearts almost a requirement in order to realistically progress.

So apart from a tough challenge, what else sets Charlie II apart from any number of platform clones?, game review, For a start, rather than the common tactic of picking a random cute creature that bears no relation to the gaming world, Wiering have taken the duck motif and used Charlie's unique skills (as a duck!) within the gameplay somewhat. Yes, Charlie can swim! This removes the familiar platform game frustration of "death by water" and also adds to Charlie II's exploratory focus by actually allowing him to dive below the surface - effectively a shortcut to another part of the level, and a tidy reworking of Super Mario's famous green "warp pipes".

The game's presentation and general atmosphere also set it well apart from more amateur, game review, offerings. A defined, sumptuous, game review, art, game review, style exists throughout each backdrop, enemy sprite and collectable. Charlie himself is an endearing character to play as he waddles along with this little quacking, and special mention should go to the music which never fails to perfectly emulate the happy synthesised backing tunes of a more simple age (except here done with more instruments!).

Simply put: Charlie II is a perfectly pitched slice of retro gaming for a new generation. The game-making philosophy of old is followed to a tee, and the,, game review, game review, result is an authentic, enjoyable and (due, game review, to being very, very hard!) ultimately lastable title that is well worth its $15 registration price to any true platform game fan.

Score: 8/10

Game Review: Gibbage

Dan Marshall's long awaited and much-hyped Gibbage has finally hit the streets, but was it worth the wait?

Around two years in development, Gibbage is a relatively simple concept with clearly high aspirations - playability over technological complexity, and thus a true "indie" experience in every way.

A two-dimensional platformer in the style of the 16-bit glory days, Gibbage takes frenetic platform-based item collection and adds a somewhat more modern one-on-one deathmatch feel to the proceedings,, game review, resulting in all the multiplayer madness of a game of Counterstrike but all the yesteryear charm of Bonanza Brothers or Chuckie Egg.

Gibbage has no support for networks, so look forward to the added retro-styled bonus of being within poking distance of your friend who, just like in the good old days, is being forced to share your keyboard as well as your screen!

Each player is represented by a pod-like chamber on their respective side of the screen, from which, one at a time, emerge an unlimited, game review, supply of controllable gun-toting "clones" whose mission, game review, is to gather randomly dropped power crystals from around the level.

These crystals are then carried back to the pod, and added to the amount of power the player has at their disposal. A tug of war ensues as each player increases their power by securing crystals, but at the same time risking power loss by being killed (and using power to spawn another clone) or losing crystals to the opposition. All the while, each player's power level is steadily counting down, and the first player to reach zero, game review, is declared the loser, game review, .

Weaponry can be improved beyond the supplied popgun by the occasional presence of power-up bonus crystals, and these are generally typical upgrades, game review, such as homing rockets, land mines or lasers.

However, the bonus crystals are also capable, game review, of enacting "negative" status changes upon the enemy, often with hilarious consequences. These include such gems as an "armless" state in which your luckless chum will spend several minutes running around unable to fire, with blood pumping from their limbless upper torso, or "cryo" in which the opposing player will be frozen on the spot for a length of time.

The gore, in fact, is another "feature" worthy, game review, of discussion, as this game is absolutely loaded with the red stuff.

Death will generally result in a shower of gibs (hence the titular choice) and a comically rolling skull, and, as battle ensues, these scattered remains will pile up until stages begin, game review, to resemble warzones of the highest, game review, order - not for children (or, presumably,, game review, Daily Mail readers), this one.

With over 24 maps, game review, available, there is plenty here to keep both the casual or more serious gamer occupied, and the developer has sensibly integrated an unlocking system to control the availability of each stage, adding further to the "just one more go" feeling that Gibbage seems designed around.

But for how long will you actually want to play Gibbage? For a start, as a single player game, Gibbage is bordering on useless. The AI opponent, game review, begins to become unstuck the moment levels with any form of dangerous obstacle are introduced - cheerfully hurling itself into lava pits in an attempt to recover power crystals randomly dropped onto the deadly surface. If you have no friends, stay away from Gibbage! Multiplayer (clearly the real aim of this game), however, is an experience that, once one acclimatises to the tiny sprites and often rather unpredictable physics, can become a real time waster.

A full round, either of long or short duration, will generally play out in a fairly balanced fashion, with a generally steady array, game review, of power and bonus crystals coming in regular supply. Perhaps the only criticism here is the tendency for something of a rush of crystals earlier in a game, game review, (often three or four falling in quick succession), with rather a dearth later on as players will find nothing left to do but turn their attentions to each other, often causing the rich to become richer in terms, game review, of power levels.

Attention too should also be drawn to the cryo bonus, which freezes the opponent for an almost unbearably long time; providing a real table-turner in game fortune, game review, and a massive frustration, game review, if a large lead was in hand before being crushed by this one swift move.

In conclusion, Gibbage is a bold, humorous and immensely playable title which, at only a ฃ6 price tag, can, game review, be forgiven for its niggling playability issues by offering a lasting, entertaining and surprisingly, game review,, game review, deep (multiplayer!) gaming experience which should out live its asking price, game review, by quite a while.

Roll on the next Dan Marshall release!

Score: 7/10.
