Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Expansion

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Expansion Review

Storm of Zehir is sure much different from all the other NWN campaigns (NWN1 and NWN2). Though MOTB still is my favourite one SOZ is absolutely a great game:
The overland map forces you to skill your characters in a way that most people usually wouldn't do: you need to skill one party member to work as your "guide" to move fast and to avoid encounters. You don't have to, but than you do not need to complain, if you have to fight every two steps. Trading and crafting is not bad, though I did not use crafting very much, there was still enough equipment around, so I ddi'nt need to craft. The team skills were also no bad Idea: I only used the one, which shortens the rest time to 4 hours, which was very usefull, as resting is only allowed on the overland maps or in taverns. The limitted resting is also forcing you to be carefull with your spells. The new dialogue system is very nice: depending on your skill another character might have to say something that others can not (e.g. if one party member has a high diplomacy skill).
There are also some minor things that I liked about the other games more: in SOZ are no ingame video sequenzes and video dialogues, which is kind of a step back from the original campaign and MOTB. There is also not really team interaction like in MOTB. I liked the principle of the influence points very much. The story is a bit short: directly to the story related quests are rare.

I just hope that games like NWN are continued to be produced as I prefer more round base role playing much more than realtime like in Oblivion (though it was a great game too).

Star Trek Online

Star Trek Online Review

First of all let me say that I am not a professional reviewer nor do I assume or think that I am one. I do play multiple MMOs to include EVE Online, WOW, Champions Online, Second Life, Blue Mars, Anarchy Online, etc. So this review is based on my opinion of the game as a MMO. I am not going to do a elaborate break down of each section, I am not going to use fancy words, and I am definitely not going to blow smoke at you about how horrible this game is. The game is like any other game which will have strengths and weaknesses. Yes sometimes it doesn't feel like a MMORPG, but it is still a lot of fun. Yes sector space feels small, but at least the devs are listening/willing to fix it. Yes you can level really fast in the game, but leveling is a lot of fun. It honestly doesn't feel like a grind because some of the missions are really action packed. Yes this game has a lot of room for improvement, but if you go on the STO forums you will see that the devs actually listening! They are making changes based on what the users want not what they think is good for the game. I frequently lurk on the forums and always impressed on the number of dev posts. The actually game producer, Daniel Stahl, is probably the most active one on the forums. He is always addressing the issues that we have about the game. He is also not stand offish about it. He seems very down to earth and genuinely wants to make the game better. Now for more of the review. I have to admit that the first missions is a little boring. I have leveled three toons and I hate the "demo" mission. After you get done with that you find yourself at SOL space dock. The art in this area is very nice. Once you load up on missions you get story, patrols, defense, and other assorted ones. Some of my favorites are the sector defense missions. In these you basically team up with other players to kill NPCs in space combat. These are very action packed and give out good XP. Honestly I think these missions are want make this game not feel like a grinder. Furthermore, patrol missions are nice because they are quick and easy whilst rewarding decent xp. Additionally, the story missions are actually very engaging. I find myself reading all the NPC text and actually eager to move onto the next mission in the story line to see what is going to happen. I particularly like the Mirror Universe Story line. I hope they expand on it in the future. I will say that ground combat feels lacking. The devs are working on it by putting in ambient creatures. It will be nice to beam on a planet and it feel dead. Also the tedious part of scanning things is going to become a mini game in season 2. I think this will improve the overall fun factor of this feature. All in all season 2 is a lot about making the game better based on user feedback. I think it is going to take this game to the next level. Right now I have to say this about the game. It is a work in progess; what do you expect from a new game? So if you want to try the game do so. Give it your 30 days and cancel if you don't like it. Then come back later as more content gets added. If you like it then stick with it for the long haul. I know I am (Life time subscriber here). All and all no matter what this game deserves a fair chance. Either you are going to love it or hate it. Give it a shot. For you could buy another game that would give you less than 30 days of game play (IE a non-MMO game that is short). So don't listen to me or the other guys bashing this game. Give it a shot for yourself (oh btw on steam this game is going for 6 bucks right now). Thanks for listening.

You Are the Captain
Star Trek Online is the first AAA MMO to feature space and ground combat at launch. Missions will take you and your friends into the depths of space, across exotic planets, and even inside starships. As the Captain of your very own ship, it's up to you to lead your crew on missions that span a number of locations. You call the shots, no matter where you are. When you're in space, you direct the action - be it in the middle of a high-tension battle, where you can maneuver in 3-D space and fire a vast array of weaponry at your enemies, or as you enter warp to explore parts of the galaxy never before documented. On the ground, you lead your away team across exciting terrain, interacting with allies and battling enemies. Every Captain commands five subordinates on the ground, all of which can be directed to act in any manner you choose. Can you lead them safely through dangerous locales?

Total Customization
Using Cryptic’s Total Customization technology, every ship you command can be customized by you, from its color to its construction. Your ship will retain a Star Trek "feel," but it will also represent your style. What’s more, anyone can create their own species in Star Trek Online, meaning you can tell your own story about how you came to be in the galaxy and leave your mark on the Star Trek universe.

Built by Veterans with You in Mind
Star Trek Online is developed by Cryptic Studios, creators of the massively successful City of Heroes and City of Villains. It’s built on the Cryptic Engine, a core technology that means Cryptic game designers can focus less on a game’s nuts and bolts and more on creating a game that captures Star Trek’s essence, guaranteeing that both longtime fans of Star Trek and people new to the universe will feel at home.

A Board Game Top Ten Tips Interview - Economist Sam Pocker on Monopoly Strategy

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Sam Pocker on Monopoly: top ten tips for winning at the world's best-selling board game. Interview by Ashley Cotter-Cairns

ACC: How can you make 'regular' Monopoly more exciting?

SP: Play for real money. It's more exciting, it's potentially illegal (check your local and state laws first), and it keeps you more involved in the game.

ACC: How do you feel about the 'pass the dice' and miss your rent rule?

SP: Take your time on every turn. Don't feel rushed to make a decision, there is no clock.

ACC: Should you avoid debt in the game?

SP: Mortgage to the hilt after every color is spoken for. You need as much cash as possible early in the game. You can unflip when everyone else is flipped and therefore be the only player collecting rent.

ACC: Which version of Monopoly is the best?

SP: Don't play those licensed Monopoly games, they are too confusing and have strange values. I got my butt kicked at Disneyopoly once, it was embarrassing.

ACC: How do you feel about the history of the game?

SP: Respect your American heritage. This is a game based on Atlantic City, a disgusting slum on the Jersey Shore filled with smelly casinos, homeless junkies, and the seediest gift shops in North America. Stand tall, be proud!

ACC: What's a rookie error to avoid?

SP: Income Tax. With the exception of the first two rounds, always play for $200, the 10 per cent is a suckers bet. If you are so broke that the 10 per cent is cheaper, then you might as well just fold.

ACC: Is there a "killer" way to close out the game?

SP: If you own Boardwalk AND Park Place, mortgage everything else and BUILD BUILD BUILD. Save yourself enough cash to pay rent elsewhere, generally 30 per cent of your total worth, dump everything else into houses and hotels. One person landing on them can end the game and leave you victorious.

ACC: Monopoly's just for fun... right?

SP: If you take the game seriously, don't play with people who do not take it seriously. They will ruin your enjoyment and you will ruin theirs.

ACC: What about the 'criminal' element?

SP: If you end up in jail, roll as many times as possible before paying. If you have a 'get out of jail free' card, use it only in the early rounds of the game.

ACC: How do you feel about the rules for quicker gameplay?

SP: A Monopoly game can take 2-5 hours if played correctly. Allot this much time beforehand, commit to it and play 'til the end. This is the only board game which is truly like a day at the office, it's a lot of work and it can be very rewarding emotionally and intellectually, but give the game the respect it deserves, much as you would your career.

REMEMBER - Practice makes perfect! There are several titles for computer and video game systems available for you to practice with before playing.
