Avatar - The Game Review - Is it As Good As the Movie?

James Cameron's Avatar surpassed all expectations to become the highest grossing movie of all time. It surpassed his own Titanic movie which he made ten years ago to take the top spot. As with every other blockbuster movie, a video game tie-in is almost mandatory. Avatar: The Game is an interesting game that isn't quite as good as the movie, but it has some interesting features worth mentioning, game review, .

The first thing you'll notice about this game is how rich the environment is. The majority of the game takes place on the, game review, planet Pandora, a lush forest with colorful creatures and floating mountains.

The game is actually a prequel of the movie. Although many of the supporting characters are included and even voice acted by their real-life counterparts, the main characters from the film are nowhere to be found. Instead, you will play as a man named Abel Ryder, a new recruit for the military team, game review, on, game review, Pandora.

Early in the game, you are forced to make a choice. You must choose whether you want to fight on the side of the humans or on the side of the Na'vi. Interestingly, the game then splits into two completely separate gaming experiences, game review, depending on what you choose, so it is almost like getting two games for the price of one.

If you choose to fight on the side of the humans, the rest of the game will play mostly like a 3rd person shooter. It can be pretty fun running around the forest with a flame thrower and a machine gun. If you choose, game review, to fight for the Na'vi, the rest of, game, game review, review, the game will be more like a platform action game. You can run around on the tree tops, fight off the enemies with knives and clubs, and even fly through the air on a flying dragon.

The coolest aspect of this game is that it is one of the first games to be created in full 3D.

If you happen to have a 3D television, then this will be one of the most immersive game experiences you've ever, game, game review, review, had. It is mesmerizing to walk through the colorful jungle in stereoscopic view while bullets literally whiz by your head. If you've got a friend with a 3D television, it is worth it to bring your system over to his house to play.

There are some slight drawbacks to the game. The foremost complaint is that many, game review, of the missions are remedial and tedious, game review, .

There is a lot of simple item-collecting. The storyline is also fairly sparse,, game review, and it presumes that you have seen the movie. If you've never seen Avatar, you'll probably be wondering what's going on and why you should care.

Overall, Avatar is a good game that is worth checking out for its graphics alone. It's also a must buy if you are an Avatar fan and want, game review, to explore the world and stories of this universe even further. It should hold you over until James Cameron's book comes out.
