Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories Review
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories was hailed as the "killer PSP game". The popular GTA series had to make its way onto the PSP sooner or later, and it's PSP debut is great.
The game takes place, as the title suggests, in Liberty City, which is the city that Grand Theft Auto III (the series' first 3D game) is also situated, game review, in. Rockstar Leeds simply converted the city onto the UMD, and changed a few things to make it look more modern, as LCS is set after III. Having said that, the only real changes are shops, which have different names and styles, which is quite disappointing.
A new city to, game review, explore would have been much better.
You play as Toni Cipriani, a no nonsense guy who's willing to do anything and remove anybody in his way. Unlike GTA III, he can talk, which makes the cutscenes better. The basic story mode consists of missions that do tend to get repetitive. You'll go to a guy on your map, he'll give you a mission that usually involves killing someone,, game review, and you get paid once you're done. Once you've completed enough missions, you'll move on to the second island of Liberty City.
There are three islands in total, and you unlock them over time. It's a good incentive to complete the missions, but for people who have played GTA III, there's nothing really new.
Though the game focuses on missions, the free roam ability is truly magnificent. You may find yourself playing it over and over again, and rarely getting tired of it. There is no free roam mode, in fact there are no modes, the game simply loads when you turn it on. Whether or not you choose to engage in a mission is up to you.
If you choose not to, you can roam freely around the city, causing havoc, or just exploring. You can also collect a number of weapons, ranging, game review, from pistols and UZI's, game review, to rocket launchers, flamethrowers and sniper rifles. You'll also, game review, have melee weapons such as knives and baseball bats. Or, if you want to do some damage from a distance, use a grenade or Molotov cocktail. The amount of weapons in the game is similar to the PS2 versions, which means, game review, there's loads.
The cops are still present, so if you blow off too many heads, you'll get some heat on you. The cops are divided into levels with the usual system. You have 1 star at the beginning, and if you keep blowing things up, eventually it will increase to 6 stars, and you'll have the army after you.
The vehicles in the game, game review, are again similar to previous versions. Veterans will remember the Patriot, Cheetah, Infernus, Banshee and so on, although some have redesigns which look more modern.
You can also have motorbikes, which have never been seen around, game, game review, review, Liberty City before Motorbikes are generally faster and have better handling than the cars, and make it easier to perform unique jumps, and such. There are no bicycles in the game, which was a nice addition to San Andreas. As you progress through the, game review, game you will also have the chance to ride boats. It's not as fun as it sounds, and it never really has been in any of the GTA games. Boat handling is sluggish and it's not fun to drive, game review, them.
You can no longer fly. Anything. Not a thing. The Dodo was a plane on GTA III that was located in the airport, which, game review, you could fly,, game review, or at least try to. This time there is no Dodo, no helicopters, no planes whatsoever., game review, It really feels like a missing factor, although in one of the missions it is possible to steal a helicopter, so the physics and controls are still technically in the game. Why there are no planes to fly is confusing. The police still have, game review,, game review, choppers following you, so watch out.
A new mode of transportation is the ferry. It's basically a slow boat ride and you don't get to drive the boat. You even have to pay for the service. It is a quick way of getting from island to island though, and you do get to keep your car.
The general controls of vehicles is good. Sports cars have great speeds and handling, and slow cars have reduced turning capacity. The controls on foot have been changed dramatically. You use the small analog style stick to control Toni, and vehicles. The directional buttons are used for changing weapons and starting various side missions.
Of course the PSP has less buttons than the PS2 controller, so condensing everything was not an easy task. Sometimes the controls do feel very fiddly and it can be frustrating when you need to target things quickly.
Adding on to the "Toni Can't" list, is the, game review, ability to swim. Implemented in San Andreas, this feature is absent. It's only really missed when you fall off a cliff into, game review, the water, as you could swim to the side, game, game review, review, and get out. Instead, Toni simply drowns.
All of the abilities to increase stats are no longer present, but it's not particularly, game review, missed, game review, .
Toni can change clothes, and there are some nice options. He is unable to change specific body parts, instead you choose from full, game review, suits. Though changing clothes is a small part of the game, you probably would never notice this option if it wasn't required for some missions.
If you don't, game review, want to do any main missions, you can engage in some of the side missions.
Famous in all PS2 GTA games, these, game review, usually involve Taxi missions, in which you act as a taxi driver and deliver passengers before time elapses. Ambulance missions, where you take sick people to hospital. Firetruck missions, which involves putting out fires like burning cars. A new side mission is the dump truck mission. You simply need to collect all the green trash cans within the time limit. All these missions are basically the same repetitive actions. The rewards are, game review, worth the effort though.
There are also hidden packages throughout the game in various locations. Nothing new to the series, but collecting all 100 adds weapons, game review, to your hide out. Unique jumps are large jumps where the camera changes and it goes in slow motion. When you, game review, successfully complete, game review, a unique jump, you'll, game review, get money for your effort. While these things are by no means new additions, they are nice to have, and it expands the game.
We all know that the PSP has wireless capabilities, and Liberty City Stories takes advantage of that.
The wireless multiplayer action is staggeringly, game review, good. You must, game review, have friends with PSP's and copies of the game, but if, game review, you do, you're in luck. The game allows for total free play with your friends. There are many different game modes which adhere to the capture the flag premise. Most of the games work in this way. Liberty City Survivor allows players to play against each other. This is the mode you'll be playing none stop. Even after you have finished the game, it is unlikely that you will get bored of the multiplayer action.
Liberty City Stories has the same radio themed soundtrack. When you enter a vehicle you can choose from a number of radio stations, all of which have different styles of music., game review, The soundtrack has some known tracks from the era, but nothing too impressive. In comparison with the Vice City and San Andreas soundtracks, this is sub-standard.
The graphics throughout the, game review, game are fairly cartoony. The series was never meant to, game review, be a simulator, but some smoother graphics would have been nice.
Sometimes it can seem that Toni has several legs when you are running. Also, at times the frame rate has trouble keeping up, but only when there is lots on the screen at once. For the most part, the frame rate holds up well. The loading times are acceptable. There is a loading period at the, game review, start and then as you cross, game review, between islands, a loading screen will appear, but only for a few seconds.
Overall, it's a great addition to the Grand Theft Auto series, and the PSP line up.
You can't help but feel it's just a watered down version of a PS2 GTA, or simply an expansion pack, that doesn't expand on much. Nevertheless, the action, game review, in single player, and in particular, multiplayer, is well worth the purchase.

Mystery Case Files - Dire Grove Game Review
MCF: Dire Grove is the latest chapter in Big Fish Games' Mystery Case Files (MCF) series, with the events in the game taking place right after Return to Ravenhearst. Once again, you take on the role of the master detective as you continue to tackle mysterious cases that include hints of the supernatural, game review, .
MCF: Dire Grove starts with the detective (that's you!) driving back through the English countryside after solving the mystery in MCF: Return to Ravenhearst. As you're driving, you are caught in a freak snowstorm that is so intense that your vision is entirely obscured, and you are forced to stop in a secluded village just off the motorway: Dire Grove.
As, game review, you approach the village, you find an abandoned, game review, car along the road. Investigating, game review, it, you come across scraps of paper and a video cassette containing disturbing information about a dark legend that had come to life. As you progress further into the village, you start to discover that something is really wrong, game review, here. The village seems abandoned, and you find more video cassettes showing recordings by a group of archaeology graduate students who had come to Dire Grove to investigate an ancient dark Celtic legend.
And by the looks of it, they found what they were looking for...
The first thing you'll notice when playing MCF: Dire Grove is that the production, game review, values for this game have gone through the roof, much better than its already-impressive predecessors! All the, game review, art and music in the game are gorgeous and fit the theme and atmosphere brilliantly. To enforce the atmosphere of a snowstorm, you also have snowflakes and flying leaves moving all over the screen.
What stood out for me was the almost movie-like quality in the cutscenes.
The intro scene, game review, and all the video clips showing the archaeology students and their misadventures are live, game review, action recordings. The acting is pretty decent and the recordings have an almost Blair Witch-like quality to them. All of this adds an extra dose of realism to the game, drawing, game review, you in like never before.
The gameplay of Dire Grove has also evolved from the basic, game review, hidden object gameplay of the earlier instalments in the MCF series. This game is an adventure and exploration game first, with hidden object gameplay and puzzle elements thrown, game review, in.
You don't get mindlessly led from one hidden object scene to another. Instead, you need to use a bit of exploration and logic to decide what you should do to achieve your immediate goals and advance the plot. The game isn't extremely difficult to solve though; most of the objects of interest will have a slight sparkle to guide you along your, game review, path.
The hidden object scenes and the puzzles that appear as minigames are both of the standard that you would expect from a MCF game. The designs are crisp and clear, while the puzzles are difficult enough to require a moderate amount of thinking and planning, but not so difficult, game review, as to detract from the story or become a stumbling block.
There are also puzzles that span across multiple scenes. You might find a crowbar or a bunch of nails in one scene, and won't find a use for them till an hour or more later. There are also obstacles, game review, that require manipulating the scenes. For example, there's an object of interest on the top shelf in the garage. Now what can I find in the area that I can use, game review, to reach it?
As has been said before, the game has superb production, game review, values, and is a full-fledged adventure puzzle game that will draw you in for hours on end.
What else can you expect from the developers of the Mystery Case Files series who have yet to disappoint?

GTA 3 - Game Review
And the game that marks the passage of the GTA series from 2D to 3D, with outstanding results.
It 'almost impossible for every video game he had never heard of this series was born in 1997 and has sold nearly five million copies around the world.
Like all fans of the saga already know, we wander in the game in a big city on foot or by other means, in search of, game review, new missions to be done that will give us the chance to earn money to purchase them and we slowly reveal the plot of game.
Unlike previous chapters, we could do this in environments in three dimensions, which will bring many new possibilities.
The game is set in a metropolis called Liberty City, a sort of New York version of super violent, with a high rate of crime and prostitution, game review, .
The city is in the hands of three major Mafia gangs (Mafia, Yakuza and Puerto Ricans) who divided the three main areas of Liberty City.

At first, we find ourselves a bit 'out of place before, game review, the vastness of the city, fortunately, the map is easily accessible and not difficult to find the place where you can start a new mission.
What stand out is the incredible freedom that is granted to a player, we could in fact decide to explore the city (only the first section, however, the other two are locked at the beginning) or go in search of new missions to accomplish to go forward in the plot, will be up to us to choose.
The missions have a variety of situations to be addressed, we pass from robberies to the sniper missions, drug trafficking and so on.
Graphically the title Rockstar is well built with, game review, changing weather conditions and excellent lighting effects, but it also has flaws like the sudden appearance of some buildings.
Special mention should be made to the soundtrack of the game, in fact when we are driving a car we can change the, game review, radio frequency, from song lyrics to rock songs.
The view is third person and character control are good, well arranged on the gamepad and allow good management of the character.
As for longevity,, game review, GTA III unrivaled in that, game review, it has about 73 main missions that will ensure many hours of gameplay, plus the freedom, game review, of action granted to the player, the hours may increase significantly.
Ultimately GTA III is a masterpiece also because it marks a real revolution for the series and brings a flurry of news, game review, in the gaming world, has few flaws including, game review, imperfection some graphics.
Recommended to all fans of action games and those who want to try their hand at something totally different than the games released so far.

The PS3 is costly enough as it is, and, game review, as with anything else you invest in, you wouldn't want to do it before reading up on it first. What better way to do that, than to check out some PS3 game previews? Generally speaking, the best sources of PS3 previews will come from those websites and magazines that have generally covered PS2 and the original PS from the outset.
General gaming sites like Gamespy/IGN, Gamespot, 1up, and GamesIndustry.biz are, game review, generally good sources of quick, easy to read news, game previews, and reviews. The quality varies, but what is common to each of these is that they will compare their subject matter to the competition. In this case, exclusive PS3 titles would be compared against games on Xbox 360 and Wii in any PS3 game review.
If you're already a fan, and you're set on having a PS3, you might prefer, game review, PS3 reviews from sites that deal with nothing else.
Dedicated community fansites tend to have active discussion, game review, forms full of analysis of every, game review, last detail. Sites like PSXextreme, PSrules, PS3 Power, and PS3 Land are all good, game review, sources of PS3 game previews. Naturally, there aren't any PS3 reviews out yet, but these sites are already geared up and equipped to start posting them as soon as they hit the shelves in November.

Questions To Ask While Purchasing A Game
There are many games out, game review, there clamoring for your hard earned, game review, money. They all try to dazzle you with fancy artwork, big name stars, and amazing graphics; but, what makes a game fun and what makes a game look good are two separate things.
The, game review, majority of your purchases will be dictated by what type of game you prefer. While we prefer RPG and Adventure games, other people prefer sports and action games, and still others prefer puzzle and mystery games. While there are a vast number of game genres out there,, game review, there simple tips will help you get the most bang for your buck.
Listen to reviewers,, game review, but don't depend on them. Reviewers are often pressed for time and while big name games (Final Fantasy, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, etc...) can garner a very in-depth review, most games are only played for one or two hours before a final verdict is made. What should you look for in a review?
Graphics
Gameplay
Controls
Bugs
Each of these will manifest themselves throughout the game. If the game has any of these problems in the few hours the reviewer had with the game, then you can be certain that those problems will continue to manifest themselves in the rest of the game.
Narrow your scope. When I go shopping for a video, game review, game I try to limit the genre of game I'm going to pick up. While I like to keep my options open, there are too many games in too many categories for me to make a decision on. The more, game review, I focus on one (or two) genres, the faster I can make my, game review, decision.
How much value does this game offer for your dollar? This is the meat of your decision. To better answer this question, I break value up into several categories:
How much time does it take, game review, to beat the game? This depends on what type of game you're, game review, looking for.
If you want an expansive RPG you probably don't want to pick up Tetris (of course, if you're looking for a quick 'pick up and play' game, Oblivion isn't your cup of tea).
Can the game be replayed? You can start every game over, but they often get repetitive; for, game review, example, playing Halo 2's single-player missions a second time around tend to get, game review, boring.
Does the game, game review, offer multiplayer/online play? Supporting multiple players can help extend the, game review, life of the game ten-fold.
With its online component, Halo 2 has managed to be a stable game that I go back to again and again.
What content does the game offer? In other words: what reward system does the game use? Are you able, game review, to unlock features or components of the game, or is it a linear game? Generally speaking, games that offer "unlockables" also offer more content, thus more bang for your buck.
By asking yourself these simple questions you can separate yourself from the marketing hype and determine if you're going to have a fun time with the game you're going to purchase.

Final Fantasy VII Review
Since its release in 1997 this game has set the benchmark for all other RPG games, since its release there have been up to FF XIII so far in the series but as the number in the series gets higher there seems to have been some loss that has been making FF, game review, games less popular. So Square-Enix, game review, has been going back and reproducing their previous FF games for hand held gaming, but enough of the facts let's talk about the game.
When FFVII was released it was the first of its kind, a 3D RPG game that had one of the most detailed storylines of its time, the,, game review, game review, main source of evil and enemies, game review, in this game comes from the Shinra, game review, company that controls a city where most people live called Midgar.
The Shinra company mainly supplies electricity to the city and other places round the world with reactors, but the catch is that it they make this electricity by taking the life-force of the planet (It basically takes today's problems with power to the extreme), but as well as supplying electricity Shinra has an army of troops the strongest being the 1st class SOLDIER who are genetically modified humans who have been exposed to the planets life force, game review, and injected with alien cells.
These alien cells come from an almighty being called Jenova, which crashed on the earth hundreds of years before FFVII. Shinra found Jenova and took her into captivity and performed various experiments even creating a human being, game review, from Jenova's cells.
As every game has an evil guy, game review, in it this game has Sephiroth who was the best SOLDIER there ever was, during a routine check up of a reactor Sephiroth goes into the Shinra mansion nearby and starts to read some books from the secret laboratory underground, one book mentioned a child of Jenova who has super human physical abilities and being the best fighter in the Shinra corporation Sephiroth believed this child to be himself and took it upon himself to free Jenova from captivity, game review, and destroy the planet, but he was stopped by two Shinra SOLDIER's Zack and Cloud (the hero of the game), game review, and when Shinra learned of their victory they captured the two SOLDIERS and performed various experiments on them until the day they escaped.
But during their escape Zack was killed.
FFVII takes place five years after Sephiroth was killed and you take the role of Cloud, as you progress, game review,, game review, through the story you meet new friends and even some old ones from Cloud's past, game review, throughout the game, these friends will join you in the fight against Shinra and Sephiroth. The battle system is time-based meaning that you don't have forever to think of what you want your character, game review, to do which keeps the action and the pressure coming time and time again.
During battles you have a wide choice of moves that, game review, are updated as you progress through the, game review, game. The main factor that affects your moves is 'materia' which will allow you to cast a variety of magic spells, steal and even summon monsters. Also there is one factor that can turn the tide of the battle in the blink of an eye, this is called the limit gauge and fills accordingly to the amount of damage that your character receives, when the gauge is full you will be able to perform a special move that deals great damage.
Your limit move will be upgraded depending on how many enemies you kill and also how many times you use it, each character has about 8 different limit break moves and are very different from one another, I'm sure FFVII fans will understand when I say "Omnislash destroys all!!!" google it if you don't know what Omnislash is.
As you can see from the length, game, game review, review, of the review FFVII was a very long game but entertaining none the less. Most Playstation games usually have one disc but this, game review, game had three and since its release there has been what is known as a 'Compilation of FFVII' and in this compilation there is a fully animated movie (Not Cartoon looks more like real life) that was a huge, game review, success and also games that tell the story, game review, of the past and future of Final Fantasy VII and also other characters stories, FFVII was so successful there have been millions of requests for a remake of the game.
Even though it's a Playstation 1 game it is still worth buying and is better than most of the games out today. It's also my favourite game of all time, and Cloud rules!!!!!!!

Video Games From Cheats And Tricks To Reviews
As you probably know that nobody, game review, likes a cheater. However, when discovering video game cheats, "cheating" isn't what you're, game review, doing, but "discovering shortcuts, tips and tricks," or video game hints, game review, .
Video games are usually incredibly complex, since the days of Pong and PacMan, that the game authors have actually hidden some back doors and other shortcuts to help the weary player. The problem is, most of the back doors are well hidden that the same authors have to leak the game cheats or, game review, nobody would ever find a back door.
And it's not only the blood and guts video games that provide cheats to the game player. Take the perfectly bloodless "Finding Nemo" for the GameBoy Advanced. Who'd, game review, ever guess that there are at least six video game cheat, game review, codes hidden there?
Don't make a mistake, thinking that it's just the handhelds. If you play a video game online, for instance,XBox,, game review, game review, Live, there is a whole set of video game hints available.
Of, game review,, game review, course, video game cheat codes and game hints could become useless if you don't have a video game.
And that's, game review, why video games have become available on the website.
Any web sites that are worth visiting will not only content, game review, video game reviews and cheats for you. but they will also provide you with game walkthroughs. Video game walkthroughs are different from cheats, game review, in the sense that they actually "walk you through" the process of achieving some goals. Video game cheats, in contrast , are often cryptic one or two liners like "Enter xx312 in the password field.
"
There are different kinds of video game reviews. Each has good and bad points. Professional video game reviews are usually written by paid reviewers who work, game review, for video game magazines. These reviews are well-written, in depth, and definitely worth reading. The other most common writer for video game reviews are the actual end users. While an end user will normally have spent a lot more time playing the various video games on the most popular video, game review, game systems, you'll often discover that they are men and women of little words.
It's not uncommon to find a review that says "Wow! Kick Bu** man. I love it!" Now, that's probably simply saying quite a bit about a particular video game, but -- your mileage could be various.
The key thing to be remembered is that you will not invest in a video game if there are only a few people who write a review of the game. Certainly, if everyone believes this advice, there would be no video game reviews on the internet, because everyone would be waiting for others to write a review for them.
There are also game previews. A video game preview is a lot similar to a movie trailer. They include all of the really exciting parts together and provide you a rapid and furious glimpse wishing that you'll believe that the entire video game is actually as cool as the 90 seconds of video game previews, game review, that they let you get a peek at.
The video game industry is at a crossroads. The more people play game online switch, the more the video game systems like XBox Live and all of the XBox video games are out there, it could be predicted that the days of jamming your joystick alone in your room are slated to become "back in the day.

PC Game Review: 'Telltale Texas Hold 'Em'
Poker Ladies. The sinuous ladies, that haunted my early youth. A sexy coin-op money-sink, that forced me to (illegally, according to my age at the time) enter seedy arcades in order to see badly-drawn manga-styled nude ladies doing naughty stuff. I did learn to play the American 52-card version of poker though, and I was only 13. Now, that's something I call a good start in my life. And I owe it all to Poker Ladies. I could have of course waited for something more than a decade and enjoy their dancing, game review, for free in MAME, but that would have been too late.
No one can pull through high school and university without decent poker skills, just like nowadays nobody can avoid stupidly watching Texas Hold'em tournaments on TV.
Telltale, game review, Texas Hold'Em is not on TV, it's on the PC instead. It was actually the first game released by the (hopefully) adventure maestros of Telltale, and has been around for quite some time. It is apparently a poker game. Of the Texas Hold'Em variety. This of course is neither a serious gambler's tutoring software instructor, nor a hardcore/ultra-powerful simulation.
Even though Telltale Texas Hold'em does play a decent and varied poker game, its great, game review, appeal is the atmosphere and the characters. Characters and atmosphere in a poker game I hear you say? Well, yes. You'll be playing against four lovingly animated and fully 3d characters, each sporting a unique personality and thus a unique playing style. Their mid-game, game review, banter is excellent, amusing and at times downright funny, their facial expressions are great, and the whole thing is well directed.
The camera pans,, game review, cuts and zooms correctly, the players look suspiciously around, move their chips, Grandma talks about her dead husbands and Boris tries to be a quite desperate bully. Voice acting is superb, and really, game review, helps flesh out, game review, those four quirky characters you'll be gambling against. Characters that are a testimony to Telltale's origins: none other than the 90s Lucasarts,, game review, game review, adventures.
The most impressive part of this, game review, game is the variety and quantity of the dialog included.
You'll need to play for quite some time before some expressions, game review, start feeling overused and even after 25 hours of poker action you'll still hear the odd unexpected line and/or joke. Great writing and smart programming make all this possible in a download that's less than 20 megas. Unfortunately not much else is included in those less-than-20- megas. There is only one mode of play, only 4 characters to play against, one room to gamble in, one possible, game review, screen resolution and a too simple tutorial/introduction text.
On the other hand, Telltale Texas Hold 'Em only costs $12.99,and will definitely provide you with hours and hours of mindless entertainment. After all, you will, game review, quickly learn when to fold, when to raise your bet, when to bluff or when to call the other characters' bluff.
Visit the official website (at http://www.telltalegames.com) and have a look. Download, game review, the demo; it's the least you can offer yourselves.

PC Game Review - New Star GP
Welcome to the world of (New Star) Grand Prix! You are a famous racing driver who is set to be this seasons' winner!, game review, Um, that is if you actually win the races, keep your boss,, game review, friends and pit crew happy and don't, game review, loose all your money gambling.
New Star GP provides an extra dimension to the usual "here are the tracks, now Race for me!" attitude of most racing games. For each track you have a week to practice, on Saturday it's qualifying time and then on Sunday it's the actual race! So what's the actual driving part of the game, game review, like? Well.
..
You're gonna need some skill!
The game play is kind of like a more serious version of Micro-machines, having, game review, a top down view while you control the car with the arrow keys. The thing that really took me by surprise is how you really have to learn the tracks., game review, Getting your approach to certain, game review, corners is important and if you get it wrong you have to slow down, or break, or worse, crash! There are certain things you can do to help. You can choose between having a boost that will allow you to speed up faster, but it makes your car heavier.
Strict control of your fuel level helps; less fuel means you're lighter so you'll go faster, but not for as long. And if the weather gets bad,, game review, change to the appropriate tyres, game review, as soon, game review, as possible!
So practice is important, game review,, game review, to get all these things right.
Apart from the driving you have the option to take your friends or the pit crew to the casino to keep them extra happy. You don't have to play any of the games at the casino but if you're feeling extra lucky you might be able to earn a little spending money from it.
One of my favourite points about the game is that you can buy cars with the money you earn and drive these around on the current track! You don't have to do this and it takes up one of your practice days, but it's good fun.
My major complaint about the game would be the lack, game review, of multiplayer, aside from the fact you can compete via track times on-line there is no actual racing against others. The only other niggle for me is the track editor, which I found fairly troublesome to use.
Since there were no crossover tracks (or bridges) available I couldn't recreate the top-gear test track either! I cried.
Otherwise this is good fun and a worthy purchase for any grand prix, or racing in general, fan!
Score: 73 out of 100
Final words: Top notch game-play, a must for any GP fan!

Flux Family Secrets - The Ripple Effect Game Review
Flux Family Secrets: The Ripple Effect, game review, is a hidden object game that experiments a little with the genre. In this game, you will find hidden objects, puzzles, adventure and even a few history lessons! In Flux Family Secrets, you play the role of someone who does not know their past and are actively seeking it out. A mysterious family contacts you and sends you on an adventure of a lifetime. Using a time travel, game review, device, you get to go back in time and, game review, solve historical puzzles.
The story begins with the mysterious Flux family welcoming you into their home and presenting you with a few puzzles to prove your worth. You then discover that the family has a time travel device that they use to repair damage caused by time Ripples. You then get involved helping them, game review, realign history, going back in time and solving puzzles and obtaining artifacts in the various categories, game review, such as art, music and flight.
The gameplay in Flux Family Secrets is refreshing as well.
Rather than searching each scene for a shopping list of hidden objects, everything you search for in this game has a purpose. You are required to find parts of items, game review, that have been broken up into a few pieces. Once the items are assembled, you will need to either place them back into the scene where they belong, or get them to interact with some other, game review, object in the scene to progress or activate a puzzle.
The puzzles in the game are plentiful and well spread-out throughout the game so that you don't get bored with constantly looking for hidden objects.
The puzzles aren't too complex, but there are many of them and they are pretty well thought out. You, game review, get to solve cryptex puzzles, safe-cracking, arrangement puzzles and even a couple of arcade-style minigames.
When you get to the time travel bits of the game, you will find that the hidden objects and puzzles aren't very straight-forward at all. In every "category" that you go back to fix (such as Art or Music), you will be presented with 3 scenes featuring 3 masters in their craft.
The objects and puzzles in the 3 scenes are interconnected. You will need to solve puzzles in one scene in order to unlock puzzles and objects in a different scene. This adds, game review, a new dimension to the game, requiring you to keep hopping between, game review, scenes.
The game also adds a nice "history lesson" angle that makes it educational as well. The game will give you a brief description of Da Vinci and the Mona Lisa, game review, when you encounter them in the Art scenario, game review, .
Similarly, you will learn more about, game review, the origin of flight and the Wright brothers when you encounter that scene in the Flight scenario.
The graphics and music are above average in this game. The art style and soundtrack are different for each scene and reflect the styles prevalent in those historical periods. In all, Flux Family Secrets is a game that tries to blend in features from the hidden object, puzzle, adventure and mystery genres and succeeds, game review, at doing so.
Rating: 4.

Lost in the City Game Review
Lost in the City is a new game that beautifully combines the traditional hidden object puzzle elements with an engrossing and thrilling mystery/horror adventure feel.
The game starts with you waking up in a locked room that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 20 years. You then recall that you had previously gone on a first date with some girl, and almost immediately fell in love with her. But when you followed her back to her apartment, you remember her giving you a cup of coffee that was drugged, leading you to this predicament.
Moral of the story? Don't drink anything on the first date!, game review, (heh)
So you are stuck in a locked room and need to find your way out. This is reminiscent of the Japanese Crimson, game review, Room and Viridian Room games from a few years back. And when you manage to get out, you suddenly discover, game review, that the entire town is deserted and wrecked, and you seem, game review, to be the only living thing there. Resident Evil anyone?
There are a lot of things going for Lost in the City.
For one thing, the artwork and soundtrack are gorgeous. They totally bring to life the sole survivor horror feel of the game.
What's also interesting and very refreshing is that every item you are supposed to find actually has a purpose later on in the game. All too often in other hidden object games, you end up having to spot totally random hidden objects in each scene. I mean... what are handcuffs and a toy car doing in a barber shop? In Lost in the City, everything makes sense. You need to find keys to open safes, and, game review, matches to light candles.
Having to, game review, find an audio tape, the tape recorder, batteries and cable definitely sounds more logical than clicking on random objects.
There are also mini-games that separate the different stages of the game and advance the story. These include cracking numerical codes to safes, unscrambling, game review, maps and photos, and even solving riddles in order to find out where you need to go next.
The timers in the game also make sense. Rather, game review, than giving you an arbitrary timer during which you need to complete a task, you get, game review, specific story-related timers.
For example, you need to put out a fire in time or you'll inhale too much smoke and pass out.
It's the little things like these that make Lost in the City a perfect blend of storytelling and hidden object puzzles. And the story itself is pretty compelling with lots of detail and depth. I won't spoil it here, but suffice to say that the developers have taken their time to create a very engrossing story that can actually spark an emotion in you.
Whether you're, game review, into powerful, game review, story-telling, game review, and the mystery/horror genre that comes with the sole survivor adventure style, or you like hidden object puzzles that includes a strong purpose and, game review, depth, this game is, game review, definitely worth playing.
